Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good
The notes say that the album is "the rare plum of authenticity". We don't know if we'd go that far, but we can tell you that the record features Yma performing songs of the legendary Jivaro headhunters! Supposedly, Yma learned them in her "South American jungle-home", but we ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Early 50s. Very Good
Early work from Yma Sumac – with that moody mix of other worldly vocals and semi-Latin instrumentation that made her a popular one with the early exotic crowd. Yma runs up and down the vocal scale, while Moises Vivanco leads the band in a set of crashing dramatic orchestrations with a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Teen Drums
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
One of Les Baxter's best for Capitol! Forget the "teen" in the title, because this is a super-hip album filled with great percussion tracks. More than a few of the numbers have a Latiny groove – mixing strong exotica scoring with rawer percussion than usual, and some occasional ... LP, Vinyl record album
Swingin' Fling
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
Alvino Rey's swinging "wow-wow" guitar sounds a lot like Esquivel's use of pedal steel, and this album's a great bunch of work in that vein, with swinging strident arrangements that mix the guitar and baritone sax solos. Great hip bachelor pad ... LP, Vinyl record album
It's A Bossa Nova World
Capitol, 1963. Very Good
It's definitely a bossa nova world when Laurinda Almeida's around – given that the player first got the whole sound going in the 50s, then returned the favor in the 60s with some great albums like this for Capitol Records! The set's a bright blend of LA jazz and bossa rhythms – played ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wild Stereo Drums
Capitol, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Compilation of Capitol artists doing material designed to show off rhythmic stereo patterns. Les Baxter does a couple exotica things, and Dick Harrell delivers two cool rockin' drum tracks. Tartaglian Theorem
Capitol, 1968. Very Good
Sweet and dreamy instrumental pop from John Andrews Tartaglia – an arranger we only know from a few late 60s sides at Capitol Records – all of which are pretty great! Tartaglia's got a style that's still heavy in mainstream 60s easy modes, but borrows a fair bit from the generation of ... LP, Vinyl record album

This is one of Mort Garson's craziest moog records ever, or as the label says: "Moog Goes Supernatural with Eerie Electronics". Ostensibly a satanic sort of thing, this is actually a wild cool mix of moog and early synthesizer effects, over a bunch of original compositions with no sorts ... LP, Vinyl record album
