Best Of Astrud Gilberto

LP (Item 596604) Verve (Japan), Late 60s — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold
A very nice Japanese collection of 60s classics by Astrud Gilberto – with tracks that include "Agua De Beber", "I Will Wait For You", "Goodbye Sadness", "Meditations", "Certain Sadness", "Dreamer", "Aruanda", "Shadow Of Your Smile", and "Fly Me To The Moon".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Astrud Gilberto

Windy
Verve, 1967. Very Good+
One of the hardest to find Astrud Gilberto records on Verve – and one of the best! Deodato, Don Sebesky, and Pat Williams did the arrangements – and the sound here is a bit different than some of the straighter Gilberto sets of the time – still very bossa-inspired, but also in a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, 1986. Near Mint-
A rare 80s set from Astrud Gilberto – cut at a time when she was hardly doing any new recording at all! As you'll guess from the title, the album has Gilberto teaming up with German groovemaker James Last – who handles all the orchestrations for the record, and shows a surprising ... Astrud Gilberto & Walter Wanderley

Certain Smile, Certain Sadness
Verve, 1966. Near Mint-
Kind of a dream combination in one little album – especially if you dig breezy bossa from the 60s! Back in 1966, Verve Records got the great idea of teaming up its (then) biggest Brazilian imports – vocalist Astrud Gilberto and organist Walter Wanderley – both of whom were ... Walter Wanderley

Batucada
Verve, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of our favorite Walter Wanderley albums ever – and a record that moves past the more familiar bossa trio style used on his hits for Verve, into groovier new territory with added players who include Dom Um Romao on drums and Marcos Valle on guitar! And not only is the lineup expanded, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elizeth Cardoso & Silvio Caldas

Elizeth Cardoso E Silvio Caldas Vol 2
Copacabana (Brazil), 1971. Very Good- Gatefold
A mixture of samba and mellower numbers – duets by Elizeth and Silvio, set to larger arrangements that still preserve a bit of a rootsy feel on the best tracks. LP, Vinyl record album

Dorival Caymmi & Ary Barroso

Ary – Caymmi (aka Um Interpreta O Outro)
Evento/Odeon (Brazil), 1958. Near Mint-
Late 50s work from these two important Brazilian songwriters – served up here in a cool 70s package! The tracks have a nicely produced quality that makes them some of the most preferred recordings by the two artists – with strong arrangements that set off their voices nicely. There's ... Clara Nunes

O Canto Da Guerreira

Nana Vasconcelos

Saudades
ECM, 1980. Near Mint-
A really unique album from the legendary percussionist Nana Vasconcelos – one that continues the groundbreaking tradition of his 70s work, but with a very special style here! Some of the tracks use overdubs, so that Nana is mixing berimbau, percussion, voice, and other percussion instruments ... LP, Vinyl record album
Quartin/Continental (Brazil), 1970. Near Mint-
A fantastic album from this legendary Brazilian saxophonist – and one that's way different than the usual instrumental reading of the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim! The setting is less of a bossa-inspired one than a post-Coltrane mode – as Victor Assis Brasil blows alto sax, and a bit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lenita Bruno

Work Of Love
Nucleus, 1967. Sealed
A light and dreamy set of Brazilian vocal tracks – recorded in 1967, and featuring the voice of singer Lenita Bruno, a strong 60s talent with a style that's somewhat like Sylvia Telles. Arrangements on the set are by Clare Fischer – who plays piano, organ, and electric harpsichord in a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Montuno, 1988. Near Mint-
One of the greatest Airto records ever – a really overlooked record cut for the mostly-Latin Montuno label in the 80s! The album's quite spare, and almost more in a Latin mode at times – given the harder percussion on the set, and the firey recording style given to the set by Montuno ... LP, Vinyl record album
A&M, 1966. Very Good-
The start of a legend – and the very first album by Sergio Mendes' Brasil 66 group, proudly brought to the world through the godlike talents of a young Herb Alpert! Sergio was no stranger to the recording studio by the time of this set, but the record marked a real shift in his music – ... LP, Vinyl record album
