CD (Item 596433) Adventure Music, 2004 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

Very spare vocal work from Claudia Villela – recorded with only piano backing by Kenny Werner, in a mode that hearkens back to some of the experimental European vocal sessions of the 70s, or similar work on ECM. The production's got a very spacious feel – a sense of looming urgency that resonates before Claudia's voice and Kenny's piano even makes an entrance on the scene – and which links together all the space between the musical moments, creating a feel that's both personal, yet eerie. Titles include "Tom's Waters", "Deep Sea Angle Blues", "Cappucino", "The Girl From Ponta Negra", and "Room 13".  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

The richest album we've heard so far from vocalist Tom Lellis – a well-done set that has the overlooked singer backed strongly by the Metropole Orchestra! Given the setting, the album reminds us a bit of recent Verve dates from Mark Murphy – a sound that's timeless, yet not in any sort ... CD

Capitol/United Artists, 1964. Used
One of the best records ever cut by jazz vocalist Betty Carter! Why? Well, because the session's got a tight stripped-down feel – but not as stripped down as some of Carter's mellower records – and it's also one of the first to show her in the straight jazz setting that would become ... CD
