San Francisco Concert

LP (Item 59635) CTI, 1976 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold
Really wonderful work from Hubert Laws – maybe one of his greatest albums for CTI! The record has a laidback feel that's similar to most of Laws' other work for the label, but somehow the live setting also brings out a bit more edge – and gives the record a gently funky groove that's sometimes missing from his other albums. The core group features Harvey Mason on drums (which may be part of the reason for the groove!) – plus Bob James on keyboards, Gary King on bass, and Glen Deardorff on guitar. A larger string section joins in on a few cuts, but they're really submerged in the mix, and the main sound comes from the smaller group. Tracks are all quite long – and titles include "Feel Like Making Love", "Farandole", "Modadji", and "Scheherazade".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a promo stamp, some shelf wear, and minor peeling in ring-form inside the gatefold.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Chicago Theme

One of Hubert Laws' funkiest records for CTI – recorded with a full group funky style that's plenty darn great, and a lot harder-hitting than some of Hubert's more laidback sessions for the label! Sweet CTI grooving from George Benson – one of his hardest-hitting albums of the time! Incredible stuff – and a record that grows more and more important to us over the years! CTI, 1974. Near Mint-
An excellent little live set from Deodato – hard to believe because the sound's just as tight and funky as his studio albums, and possibly even more interesting because he manages to pull it off equally well in a live setting!
