Retrospective – The Best Of Buffalo Springfield

LP (Item 595033) Atco, 1969 — Condition: Very Good+
A seminal collection of work from Buffalo Springfield – a group with a short-lived existence on the LA scene, but an impact that shaped the sound of mainstream rock for many years to come! That effect is no surprise – given that the lineup features a young Neil Young, Stephen Stills, and Richie Furay – moving from folk influences into trippier, headier territory – and paving the way for both classic and country rock to come! Here at the start, things are nice and lean – well-penned tunes that pack a heck of a lot into a very short space – given key production help from Jack Nitzsche, Brian Stone, Jim Messina, and even Neil Young himself. Titles include "For What It's Worth", "Mr Soul", "Broken Arrow", "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Win", "Expecting To Fly", "Go & Say Goodbye", "On The Way Home", "Sit Down I Think I Love You", and "Kind Woman".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Rockefeller pressing with Warner logo.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Songs For A Tailor
Atco, 1969. Near Mint-
A wild batch of jazz rock tunes – recorded by ex-Cream bassist Jack Bruce, along with a host of like-minded luminaries that include Chris Spedding, Harry Beckett, Dick Heckstall-Smith, and John Hisemann. Look At Us
Atco, 1965. Very Good
A fantastic moment in 60s pop – and the record that forever launched the duo of Sonny & Cher upon the world – a completely charming, if also mismatched couple whose work together is completely fantastic! A bold step forward for the Rascals – and a record that really has them taking some great chances with their music! Maybe one of the purest expressions of the genius of Bonnie and Delaney Bramlett – an album that was recorded to feel like it was done in a motel room – with a stripped-down vibe that really gets at the best energy of the pair! White Light/White Heat
Verve, 1968. Near Mint-
One of the most far-out, freaked-out albums ever from the Velvet Underground – easily the most experimental set the group ever recorded!
