One of the coolest Christmas albums ever – a tripped-out classic from Chicago's legendary Rotary Connection! The album's every bit as wonderful as any of the group's non-Holiday sets for Cadet Records – and maybe even has more to offer, given that the euphoria of the season is thrown into the usual spacey mix! Charles Stepney lays down some totally angelic production – and the record bubbles with heavenly instrumental passages – floating along like clouds, then suddenly exploding into sharp musical moments that provide the perfect backdrop for Minnie Riperton's excellent voice. Most of the tracks are originals, penned as spacey seasonal numbers that bring a whole new sense of spirituality to the end of December – a young, optimistic take on the holiday – which makes for a really unique sort of record! Titles include "Christmas Child", "Opening Round", "Silent Night", "Christmas Love", "Shopping Bag Menagerie", "Peace At Last", "Silent Night Chant", "Sidewalk Santa", and "Last Call For Peace". (Cadet Concept pressing, in gorgeous shape!)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Enchantment
United Artists, 1976. Near Mint-
Soaring grooves and mellow moments – a perfect blend of 70s soul styles, summed up here beautifully by Enchantment! The album's one of the group's greatest – and certainly one that's been very well-remembered around these parts – thanks to some rock-solid arrangements from Johnny ... LP, Vinyl record album

People, 1973. Very Good-
An incredible album – a landmark piece of funk that nobody should be without, funk fan or not! The album is the second to feature James Brown's famous backing combo of the early 70s – and unlike their first one, which was really more of a collection of singles, this album has the group ... Buddah, 1974. Very Good
Despite the title, this is more funky 70s instrumental work than it is disco, even though the record's clearly trying for a "classy" disco funk sound. The record contains a great version of "One Man Band" which has a heavy drum break that was sampled a heck of a lot, back in ... LP, Vinyl record album
