Inferno

LP (Item 593496) Barclay (France), 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold
Dario Agento hired aging prog rock star Keith Emerson for this 1980 horror soundtrack, and the overall approach used by Emerson is similar to some of his solo instrumental work from the late 70s – with lots of keyboard-heavy tracks (acoustic piano, organ, electric piano) that show off Emerson's virtuosity and classical training. The score has some elements that are similar to some of Argento's other soundtracks – like the contemporary work by Goblin – but it's also much more of an Emerson-driven album. The whole thing's remastered here and presented with a total of 15 tracks that include "Mark's Discovery", "Rose Gets It", "Elisa's Story", "Inferno", and "Taxi Ride".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Elmer Bernstein/Shorty Rogers & His Giants

Man With The Golden Arm – Original Soundtrack
Decca, 1955. Very Good+
One of the greatest jazz soundtracks of all time! Elmer Bernstein wrote the score to Otto Preminger's chilling film version of Nelson Algren's book The Man With The Golden Arm – a sad tale of jazz, gambling, and heroin addiction on the streets of Chicago (not far from Dusty Groove, in fact!) ... Brian May

Road Warrior
Varese, 1982. Near Mint-
Brian May's classic score to the first Road Warrior film – nicely lean compared to overblown modes to follow. No Tina Turner – but lots of great guitar work and orchestrations! LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Budd

Wild Geese
A&M, 1978. Very Good+
Tightly-strung score for this forgotten war flick starring Roger Moore, Richard Burton, and Richard Harris. Budd does a nice job with the orchestra on this one, and most of the themes have a snappy militaristic style, in the vein of The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape. Not as many jazzy ... Whistling Jack Smith

I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman
Deram, Mid 60s. Very Good+
Here's a guy with a great gimmick – whistling! Jack Smith was a youngster, but he could blow with the best of them – whistling his way through the massive international pop hit "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman" – a tune that's as groovy as it sounds, with a crashing goofy ... LP, Vinyl record album
