Brilliant work from Joe Newman – arguably our favorite session of his from the 50s, and a freshly crafted batch of tracks that actually has some nice modern touches! Joe's playing here with 2 different groups – one with John Lewis on piano, Gene Quill on alto, Frank Foster on tenor, and Freddie Green on guitar; and one with Frank Wess on tenor and flute, Ed Jones on bass, and Sir Charles Thompson on piano. The Quill sides are especially nice – very tightly arranged with a good sense of counterpoint, but also enough relaxed soloing to bring in the Newman that we know and love. Titles include "Midgets", "Diffugalty", "I Feel Like A Newman", "King Size", "East Of The Sun", and "Sweetie Cake". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
