❔

A nice mid 80s groover from Paul Laurence for Capitol – whose biggest successes, arguably, were in his services as a songwriter and producer for other artists – making a pretty great case for his own work as a headline act on Haven't You Heard! May may not have heard it, actually, but it's well worth checking out. The sound is blueprint 80s synth soul on one level, but the melodies really soar here, and the songs are strong and hit-worthy. Paul's a solid singer, too. You should hear this! Tiles include "Strung Out", "She's Not A Sleaze" (with Freddie Jackson & Lillo Thomas), "You Hooked Me", "I'm Sensitive", "Haven't You Heard" and more. This FTG edition has 4 bonus tracks: "Strung Out (International Version)", "She's Not A Sleaze (Extended Version)", "Strung Out (Extended Dance Mix) and "You Hooked Me (Single Version)".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print – and still sealed!)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Take It To The Limit
Capitol/PTG (Netherlands), 1984. Used
A sweet lean set from T-Connection – still every bit as funky as back in their late 70s years, but with a different sort of style for the new generation! The music's got that great 80s groove approach that Capitol Records excelled at during the time – and the group's a bit more ... CD

BMP

Loc It Up
Columbia/FTG, 1985. Used
BMP – the trio of Butch McNeil, Marlon Holland, and Pete DaCosta – certainly not the biggest names in 80s soul, but a great little group that really gets things grooving! The sound here is a wonderful balance between harmony soul and some of the smoother group modes of the time – ... CD

Tease

Tease (Epic)
Epic/FTG, 1986. Used
Lean, mid 80s pop soul and funk from Tease – funky and nicely thumping work from a group that features singer and songwriter Kipper Jones! Kipper would go on to bigger and brighter prospects as a hit songwriter for other artists, but, both of Tease's self-titled sets in the 80s – this ... CD

Bloodstone

Party
T Neck/FTG, 1984. Used
One of Bloodstone's great groovers from later years – work that has a very different feel than the group's fragile harmony soul of the 70s, and which has them taking off into a much more confident sound! Production is by McKinley Jackson, and the album's a mix of a few funky 80s groove ... CD

Fredi Grace & Rhinestone

Tight (with bonus tracks)
RCA/FTG, 1983. Used
Tight is right – as the set's a slicked up, soulful batch of 80s grooves – with plenty of keyboards, electric percussion, and a surprising bit of funk! This is one of those too rare cases where the period's pop soul production aesthetic is done with a genuine sense of soul – ... CD

T-Connection

Everything Is Cool
Capitol/PTG (France), 1981. Used
A near-lost 80s groover from T-Connection – recorded after their more famous albums for TK, but every bit as nice! By this point, the group have really sweetened their sound in a nice way – and are working in a Capitol Rare-styled 80s groove that's filled with rolling basslines, spacey ... CD

Graham Central Station

Ain't No Bout-A-Doubt It
Warner, 1975. Used
One of the high points of Larry Graham's career – a hard-jamming set of guitar-based funk that forever put Graham Central Station on the map! There's a virtuosity to the record that's really stunning – bass, guitar, and drums all dropping into place magically alongside one another ... CD

Rick James

Throwin' Down
Gordy (Japan), 1982. Used
Rick James is massively throwing down on this classic set – tight, right, and on the money all the way through – in that trademark groove that so many others would try to cop, but never get this right! The album bristles with energy right from the start – lots of bass at the ... CD

Ritchie Family

All Night All Right
RCA/PTG (Netherlands), 1983. Used
Sweet dancefloor soul from an early 80s line-up of The Ritchie Family – this one featuring Linda James, Jacqui Smith-Lee and Vera Brown – going All Night All Right on a strong batch of synth flavored grooves! The bigger hits of the commercial disco boom were well behind them by this ... CD
Westbound, 1974. Used
A blistering little set from Funkadelic – one that features the return of Eddie Hazel's guitar, finely honed to the leaner, more soul-based sound of the group in the mid 70s! The title is prophetic, as the group are really "standing on the verge" here – working hard to ... CD
