❔
One of the few albums as an artist from the great Nick De Caro – one of the hipper arrangers of the 60s, best known for his collaborations with Claudine Longet on A&M! Nick's a very subtle genius – one who can work firmly inside the mainstream, but also bring something different to the table – a magical way of inflecting a tune, spare use of silence, or controlled emotion that always made his backings a perfect fit for the adult sound of A&M. Instrumentation here is heavily strings, but never in a syrupy, sleepy way – and many numbers feature a standout lead instrument – such as piano by Lincoln Mayorga, soprano sax by Gabe Balthazar, or tenor sax by Bill Perkins. Nick sings on 2 tracks – "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" and "Caroline No" – in this compressed style that's totally wonderful – and other titles include "Love is All", "Quiet Sunday", "Lullaby From Rosemary's Baby", "Happy Heart", and "I'll Forget You".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Brown label stereo pressing. Cover has a small center split in the bottom seam.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Burt Bacharach (1971)

Insanely wonderful work by Bacharach – in a way that we can hardly begin to describe (but we'll certainly try!) By the time this one was recorded – 1971 – Burt's reputation as a songwriter and arranger were so firmly established that he had an incredible amount of freedom in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

A crazy hammond organ workout on a variety of standards and a few originals. This is smoking stuff that has a jazzy swinging feel, but is marked with the virtuosity implied by "13 fingers". Sort of like stuff by the John Buzon Trio. Also includes "Bach Goes Berserk", "Sir ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pretty darn nice later work from Martin Denny – a great batch of sexy tracks with stunning backings, and a really nice late 60s mellow piano groove! Brass Menagerie 1974
Project 3, 1974. Very Good+
Forget how much you don't like Enoch Light's snoozy early albums for Command, these Brass Menagerie LPs are very nice, very groovy, and have a good sound that's much livelier than Enoch's other LPs. Martin Denny

Another Taste Of Honey
Liberty, 1963. Very Good+
A sweet follow up to Martin Denny's Taste Of Honey album – one that's got a great blend of piano, vibes, and percussion – all used in a way that's almost more jazz-like than some of Denny's earlier work! The formula works great to transform a host of 50s and 60s tunes – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
