Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Mass Production may not have cracked the charts as much as some of their contemporaries, but they were easily one of the tightest funky combos working for Atlantic Records at the end of the 70s – a great little group who always kept things soulful, and who managed to work with a very lean ... CD

Average White Band

Soul Searching
Atlantic, 1976. Used
Sublime mid 70s work from The Average White Band – and a record that really has the group deepening their groove a bit – moving past the heavier funk of their roots, into some mellower grooves that are totally great! There's a great undercurrent of jazz in some of the playing here ... CD

Rhino/Event, 1970s. Used
A nice collection of Fatback's later work – featuring 14 tunes the group cut for the Event label, once they smoothed out some of the sharper edges of their earlier funky stuff for Perception. The tracks aren't the hardest the group ever cut – save for the breakbeat classic "Let's ... CD

Donna Summer

Another Place & Time
Atlantic, 1988. Used
Donna Summer's in the hands of 80s pop superproducers Stock/Aiken/Waterman this time around – and the trio give her music just the kind of catchy, bouncy feel of some of their bigger hits for other artists at the time! The approach is surprisingly strong for Summer, and almost returns her ... CD
Atlantic, 1961. Used
Ray Charles in a nicely maturing mode – on a record from later in his Atlantic Records years, definitely paving the way forward for his 60s classics on ABC! The tunes are blues, but not in the way that Charles first started recording on earlier singles for Atlantic – as there's a bit ... CD

Ray Charles

Genius After Hours
Atlantic, 1956. Used
A later Atlantic Records set from Ray Charles – a record that does a lot more to show off the jazz side of his talents than some of his earlier work! Ray plays piano, and works in a few different small combos – with players who include Joseph Bridgewater and John Hunt on trumpets, ... CD
Atlantic, 1979. Used
Possibly the greatest moment ever from Sister Sledge – a set that has the Philly quartet teaming with the Chic team of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards! Rodgers' guitar brings in a hell of a groove to the record – that choppy, skittish sound that made Chic such a favorite at the time ... CD

Marvin Gaye

Midnight Love
Columbia, 1982. Used
Marvin Gaye's last album ever – and a sensuous batch of grooves that almost return him to the sound of Let's Get It On! The style here is a bit more modern, but the sound is still great – a smoother approach to soul than most of Gaye's contemporaries at the time, recorded in a way that ... CD

Ohio Players

Jass-Ay-Lay-Dee
Mercury, 1978. Used
While there was no naked bald lady on the cover of Jass-Ay-Lay-Dee, it is actually a move back towards the sweatier funk sounds of their more classic LPs. There's some tight playing and solid songwriting going on here, too, with a bit less of the smooth, sultry grooves with funky touches that ... CD
