Jackie Wilson At The Copa

LP (Item 5922) Brunswick, 1962 — Condition: Very Good
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

✈
❔
Jackie Wilson takes over the Copa – bringing his early soul styles to the New York elite – but a few years before The Supremes and other Motown artists got their chance! The album's got Wilson acting with great poise and grace, but still losing none of his vocal power at all – soaring, stretching on some numbers that begin with familiar standards, then move into more of Wilson's hits – kind of a progression from uptown to the party crowd over the course of the set. Sy Oliver handles the backings, and brings in some nice jazzy elements at times – and titles include "A Perfect Day", "Love For Sale", "Lonely Teardrops", "Doggin Around", "To Be Loved", "The Way I Am", and "I Love Them All".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Spectrum label stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear and aging, wide center split in the spine, small center split in the top seam, and half split bottom seam.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brer Soul
A&M, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
Amazing stuff from Melvin Van Peebles! Brer Soul is a mad mix of funky soul insanity and straight up wisdom – a mix of moods that also seems to inform the best of his films, now that we think about it – and it's put together with enough wild clashes of culture to shake anyone up.
