We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Revue, Late 60s. Very Good
The title says "blues", but there's lots of nice funky material on here, and a number of tracks with a good hard groove. Harold Jones handles the vocals, and he's backed up by a group of whiteys who seem to have a bluesy rock background. Cuts include "Come On And Get It", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Excellent work from this smooth Chicago vocal group! The album may well be the best the group ever recorded – and it features some stellar ballad work produced with a nice spacey tone, almost in a Rose Royce mellow mode – by Jerry Butler's Fountain Productions team and by Clarence ... A funky jazz treasure – and the band's landmark first album! One of Kelly's last records of the 70s – a bit smoother than some of his earlier work, but still quite strong overall, with some excellent vocals on most tracks. Strange little 4 track release in which Sire records was trying to break a lot of the early 80s electro disco groups from Italy into the US market. One of the better albums by this great Chicago soul studio group – but all of them are pretty nice! An oft-overlooked gem by Funkadelic – the group's last album for Westbound, and a record that really has them growing into a great new groove! One of Bill's few records that actually feature The Coz singing it up! This one's like his work on Warner Brothers – with funky backings behind Bill's slightly-silly soul vocals.
