Lyrical Stan Getz

LP (Item 591423) Columbia, Mid 70s — Condition: Near Mint-
Great 70s recordings by Stan Getz – showing his inventive years at Columbia!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Columbia Jazz Masterpieces pressing. Cover has a promo stamp.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A classic west coast recording by Stan – recorded at the Shrine Theater in LA in '54, with a group that includes Bob Brookmeyer on trombone and John Williams on piano! Verve, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
An incredibly haunting session that has Stan's edgey alto fronting some of Russ Garcia's arch-modernist string arrangements – similar to those that he contributed to other Verve albums of the same style. A lost chapter in the Stan Getz sound of the 60s – an album that features Stan blowing in front of some beautiful backdrops set by Lalo Schifrin and Claus Ogerman! Soft Swing
Verve, 1957. Near Mint-
The swing is soft by the sound is never sleepy – thanks to some always-great tenor work from Stan Getz! Award Winner
Verve, 1957. Very Good-
A great little follow-up to the classic West Coast Jazz album recorded by Stan Getz – and like that one, a set to feature some great rhythm accompaniment from the trio of Lou Levy on piano, Stan Levey on drums, and Leroy Vinnegar on bass! The tracks are nice and open – with plenty of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stan Getz

Steamer
Verve, 1956. Very Good
The title may be a bit strangely put – as "Steamer" isn't a word that we'd necessarily think to use with the gently flowing tenor tone of Stan Getz – but that doesn't stop the album from being a great one, and perhaps in Getz-like terms, it might well have a bit more steam ... Duke Ellington

Hi Fi Ellington Uptown
Columbia, 1953. Near Mint-
One of Duke Ellington's standout sides for Columbia – a strong recording that revisits many of the best elements of his earlier work, and offers up some more sophisticated scoring for the 50s – thanks to extended track length in the LP generation!
