We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Opiate d' Amour
Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good
Definitely a set that's got the drug promised in the title – thanks to some lush arrangements from the legendary Jackie Gleason! But the set's also got some other charms, too – thanks to solo instrumental passages by some surprisingly great guests – including Al Caiola on guitar, ... LP, Vinyl record album

18th Century Jazz
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good+
Goofy "18th Century" jazziness, played by a tight west coast studio sextet that features Shelly Mann, Milt Raskin, Harry Klee, and Jack Marshall on guitar. The tracks are jazz standards, but they're given a sort of plucked sound, and layed out with some sort of stepping classical grooves. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Early 50s. Near Mint-
Early work from Yma Sumac – with that moody mix of other worldly vocals and semi-Latin instrumentation that made her a popular one with the early exotic crowd. Yma runs up and down the vocal scale, while Moises Vivanco leads the band in a set of crashing dramatic orchestrations with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bug-In
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good Gatefold
An incredibly groovy set of funky studio tracks – written as a "bug-in" celebration for the dune buggy scene in late 60s California – and headed up by Shorty Rogers and Kelly Gordon! Electro-Sonic Orchestra
Coral, Mid 60s. Very Good
This isn't a moog record, but it should be! The record uses transducers to capture sounds directly from the instruments on the album – organ, electric bass, ondioline, cello, and violins – and the sound is totally weird, with a wobbly electronic groove that you'd swear was made by a ... ABC, Early 60s. Sealed
Another one of their crazy LPs, which are sometimes hard to find amidst the pop stuff they normally did.
