7-inch, Vinyl record

A great little track – one that's best known as something of a Miami soul hit, thanks to versions by KC & The Sunshine Band and George McCrae. This version's equally great – but done quite differently, as an east coast type club track – lots of strings soaring over the groove, ruff female vocals singing the lead, and a moogy solo on the instrumental version that has a nice P&P feel!  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wand, Late 60s. Very Good
An excellent soul single! "Send My Baby Back" is a real killer – with a great hook, excellent vocals, and tight production by Lonnie Hewitt, known also to the world as one of Cal Tjader's funkier piano players! "Where's My Baby" is pretty darn great, too – and is ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Daran, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Mellow harmony soul from Chicago – a great little indie single by a group we know little about! "You Turn Me On" starts very slow and starts to build up as the track goes on – in a way that turns a slightly sad vocal into a much more positive feel. "Generation Gap" ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
St Lawrence, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Classic Chicago soul from Mamie Galore! "It Ain't Necessary" has a rolling party groove that fits Mamie's husky vocal style really well. Monk Higgins is leading the arrangements, and the tracks' got a soaring northern groove that's very nice! "Don't Think" shows off Mamie's ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Daran, Early 70s. Very Good-
Excellent trippy instrumentals from Chicago! "The Vamp" has some great chromatic guitar – a bit like Cal Green, with touches of Wes Montgomery – over a hard rolling organ on the beat groove. Tasty stuff – the kind of single that would blow the speakers off your jukebox ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Scepter, Mid 60s. Very Good+ (pic cover)
A very early Scepter single by Dionne Warwick – so early that the label put "This Empty Place" on the a-side, even though "Wishin & Hopin" went onto be the hit! "Empty Place" has a fuller sound than the usual Warwick mode – still in a Bacharach & ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
