❔

(Mono 6 eye pressing with deep groove, matrix ending in 1D/1A. Cover has light wear, a split bottom seam, blue tape along the top seam and marker & pen marks on the back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Very Good+
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maynard Ferguson

Conquistador
Columbia, 1977. Very Good+
Maynard come back! All is forgiven! We take back all the things we've ever said about you after hearing this album! Ramsey Lewis

Ramsey
Columbia, 1979. Near Mint-
A sweet late 70s groover from Ramsey – not as all-out electric as some of his earlier work for Columbia, but done with some nice arrangements that have a full and soulful feel! There's a bit of Kalimba/Earth Wind & Fire soul to the mix – and some tracks have production by James ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dave Brubeck

Time Further Out
Columbia, 1961. Very Good
Like Dave Brubeck's legendary Time Out set? Try this one – a great record that takes off from the concept of the first, but which goes in some very fresh new directions – using the same great group with Paul Desmond on alto, Eugene Wright on bass, and Joe Morello on drums! Dave's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1955. Very Good
A sweet live set from Dave Brubeck's early years on Columbia Records – recorded in New York, but with all the calculated cool and modern tones Brubeck first forged in the San Francisco scene of the 50s! Paul Desmond's on board on alto sax – really getting a lot of space to stretch out ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dave Brubeck

Jazz Goes To College
Columbia, 1954. Very Good
The Dave Brubeck Quartet goes to college – a pretty good place for the combo, considering how many fans they had on campus in the 50s! The sound here is never too academic for the setting, though – just the same sort of Brubeck groove first forged in the small clubs in San Francisco ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dave Brubeck

Brubeck Time
Columbia, 1954. Very Good
An early version of the quartet – with Paul Desmond on alto, Bob Bates on bass, and Joe Dodge on drums. Titles include "Audrey", "Jeepers Creepers", "Stompin For Mili", "A Fine Romance", and "Brother Can You Spare A Dime". LP, Vinyl record album

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers

Drum Suite
Columbia, 1956/1957. Very Good-

Columbia, 1962. Very Good+
The rarest of the "time" trilogy albums albums that Brubeck started with Time Out – and the most compelling, too! The classic quartet is in excellent form here – and drummer Joe Morello is especially excellent, as he's working in new rhythms and new percussive modes that you'd ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1973. Very Good-
One of the last great records by Charles Mingus – a set of extremely compelling original compositions, played by a fresh group of younger players, plus a few older masters! The record's got a fire and sense of emotion that's missing from a number of other 70s Mingus sessions – and it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grant Green

Alive!
Blue Note, 1970. Very Good-
A really fantastic album from guitarist Grant Green – a set that's every bit as great as his other Blue Note funk albums from the time – but in a very different way! First off, the group has vibes – played by the more obscure Willie Bivens, sometimes with this hard chromatic ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1976. Very Good+
More of a soul album than a jazz album – and a stripped-down mellow set that has Les singing and playing keyboards with a quartet that includes Miroslaw Kudykowski on guitar. Cuts include "Everywhere I Go, People Ask Me a Question", "Woman, Come Home", "I've Been ... LP, Vinyl record album
