❔

Smooth, sensual and soulful material from Will Downing – the soul veteran sounding as good here as he has in years! As you'd guess from the title, there's something of a narrative flow to the material, themes of love, lust, lies and connected by conversational interludes, but a means to an end that could come off as pretty hokey if the songs and the singing weren't top notch. They are! Includes "Glad In Met You Tonight", "Feelin' Alright", "Get To Know You", "Fly Higher", "Saturday", "Shades", "Do You Know", "Coulda Been/Shoulda Been", "Safe In His Arms" and more.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Panache

This Is Panache
Roche Records, 1979. Used
A sweet and righteous 70s soul groover – the one and only album from the team of Freddie and Debra Thompson, a musical duo who really make things happen on their own! The set's a combination of jazzy disco tunes and sweeter, mellower soul numbers – with Freddie working lots of fast ... CD
Casablanca, 1976. Used
An oft-overlooked gem from Parliament – released during the year 1976, and sometimes hidden between monster LPs like Funkentelechy and Mothership Connection – but every bit as great as those two classics! The album's got that tightened-up P-Funk sound that was working so perfectly at ... CD

Troop

Troop
Atlantic, 1988. Used
We like the fact that Troop's hairdresser gets credit on the back of this LP, even though they're all wearing gheri curls. Given the hairstyle, we probably don't need to tell you much about the sound of this Chuckii Booker and Gerald Levert produced new jack LP. Includes "Mamacita", ... CD
Westbound, 1970. Used
An insane classic from one of the wildest funk bands ever! According to reports, George Clinton and the band cut this set in a marathon 48-hour stretch in the studio – working like mad all night and day long, after dropping a motherlode of some mighty fine acid! We don't know if that story's ... CD
Critique/FTG, 1985/1986. Used
Rare 80s grooves from female soul trio Mai Tai – carrying an effervescent post disco soul groove well into the mid 80s on this self-titled album from 1985 – plus a handful of bonus tracks! Mai Tai never really got over in the States, but made a pretty pronounced impact in the Dutch ... CD

Chill

Chill Out
FTG, 1985. Used
Nothing chilled out here – as this Chill comes from the time before heavy hip hop usage of the word, and instead has a nicely upbeat sort of groove! There's a definite 80s sort of vibe going on here – thanks to keyboards and drum programs from Chuckii Booker, who's certainly left his ... CD

Michael Jackson

Dangerous (special edition)
Epic, 1991. Used
One of those records that we remember dismissing at the time – but honestly, it really lives up to repeated listenings in later years! Sure, Michael Jackson's no longer working with Quincy Jones – and instead goes for Teddy Riley and some other (then) contemporary producers – but ... CD

Brothers Johnson

Light Up The Night
A&M, 1980. Used
More hit magic from the Brothers Johnson – still working with Quincy Jones at this point, and virtually setting up the blueprint for jazzy soul in the 80s! Backings are by an all-star team, and Rod Temperton's helping out Quincy with arrangements – going for that snapping groove ... CD
Elektra/PTG (France), 1985. Used
The last true classic from the masters of the 80s groove genre – a post-Capitol effort for Elektra, but one that's still awash in great keyboards and snapping electro beats! Some of the jazzier sound from the past is gone here, but in its place is a leaner, cleaner sound that's still a fair ... CD

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers

At The Cafe Bohemia Volume 2 (with bonus tracks)
Blue Note, Late 50s. Used
Classic early set featuring the Jazz Messengers back when the group still included Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, and Kenny Dorham. Hard hard hard bop, cracklin' with energy, and a great example of the kind of playing that made the group an instant success. Tracks on this second volume include " ... CD

Stan Getz/Zoot Sims/Al Cohn/Allen Eager/Brew Moore

Brothers
Prestige, 1949/1952. Used
A classic Prestige LP that compiles earlier sides by Getz – four tunes from a 1949 session recorded under Stan Getz & His Four Brothers, with Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Allen Eager, and Brew Moore – all blowing with Getz in a real "brothers-like" sax section sound. The remaining ... CD
