Louis Jordan Greatest Hits 1941 to 1947

LP (Item 588699) Decca/MCA, 1940s — Condition: Near Mint-

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One Way

Wrap Your Body
MCA, 1985. Near Mint-
Damn, One Way never lets us down – and although the group cut many albums back in the day, all of them have some great standout moments! The groove here seems even tighter than ever, but never slick or commercial – a very important distinction, given that so many of One Way's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Car Wash – Original Soundtrack
MCA, 1976. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A solid bit of heavy funk – and one of the last strong-selling soundtracks of the blacksploitation era! Sure, you know the hit "Car Wash", but there's plenty of other great numbers that rank the 2LP set right up there with the best of its genre. There's a lot of nice instrumentals ... MCA, 1978. Sealed
An excellent album of smooth soul tracks, and maybe Van's best record of the 70s! The record shows Van sitting at the piano in an intimate setting – ala Barry White – and it's got a similar Love Unlimited Orchestra approach, with much large backing behind Van's voice, and a very full ... Jimmie & Vella

Heartbeat
Imperial, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold
Lost male/female duet record, with a sing song soul sound that's a bit like Peggy Scott and JoJo Benson, or other pop soul duets of the time. A bit sweet, and a bit pop/soul, but with some nice moments. Bobby Womack plays guitar and contributes the track "People Make the World", while ... LP, Vinyl record album

Solomon Burke

We're Almost Home
MGM, 1972. Very Good+
Rootsy soul album from Solomon, and perhaps his most stripped-down recording from the old days. In a way, these MGM recordings uncover more of his soulful vocals than the Atlantic albums did, although the setting's a little bit less traditional for Solomon. Includes a number of original cuts, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philadelphia International, 1977. Very Good+
Brilliant work from Philly arranger Dexter Wansel – an album that moves the focus back to soul a bit more than on his Life On Mars set, but which also keeps in plenty of jazzy touches! Dexter's groove here is similar to the best work he did with other Philly vocalists in the same time – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beverly Glen, 1985. Very Good+
An obscure later album from west coast soul group Chapter 8 – recorded after Anita Baker had left the group to move out on her own, but done for the mid 80s Beverly Glen indie, where Baker had also gotten her start as a solo act! The set's got a feel that's smooth and sophisticated – ... LP, Vinyl record album
