Band With The Beat!

LP (Item 58719) Warner, 1961 — Condition: Very Good+
A nice nice groover from Bill Doggett – one of those LPs he cut when he went "uptown" from King Records, bouncing around a host of semi-major labels in the 60s, and running through a variety of styles. This one's one of the best of that bunch – and has Doggett moving past his original quartet format into a larger group – still with Billy Butler on guitar, but adding three different sax players to the mix – Jim Powell, Les Taylor, and Ray Felder – making for a sound that's a lot fuller, and very much in a honking "rock rock rock" style. Titles include "Swivel", "Open The Door Richard", "Pony Walk", "Blues For Joe", "Lucy", and "Po Boy".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bill's got his groove on right for this set – quite possibly one of the greatest of his early King years, thanks to killer work from Billy Butler on guitar, Shep Shepherd on drums, and the great Clifford Scott on alto and tenor sax! David Sanborn

Sanborn
Warner, 1976. Near Mint-
A damn great early moment from David Sanborn – a record that really shows the reedman at his best – working some tight solos over soulful backings in the same 70s manner as Tom Scott or Wilton Felder! Like both of those players, David's got the chops to step out in front of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Tutu
Warner, 1986. Near Mint-
A nice collaboration between Miles and Marcus Miller from the latter part of Miles career. As much of the recording here is overdubbed, with many multiple instruments played by Miller, it doesn't have the improvised vibe of Miles' classic performances, but the songwriting and arrangements are head ... Warner, 1978. Near Mint-
An overdue reunion for Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll (now billed as Tippetts) – and a late 70s session that sounds quite a bit different than their mod soul of the 60s! The format here is still somewhat in a soul-based vein – but the sound is much more 70s, and much more "adult&qu ... LP, Vinyl record album
