Modern Idiom – Classics In Jazz (10 inch LP)

LP (Item 585322) Capitol, Late 40s/Early 50s — Condition: Very Good+
A great set of early cool jazz and bop – with cuts that include "Oo La La" by Dizzy Gillespie, "Opus 96" by Bill Harris, "Aishie" by Buddy DeFranco, "Budo" by Miles Davis, and "Overtime" by Charlie Barnet.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Midnight Piano
Capitol, 1964. Very Good-
A really great album from Billy Taylor – way fresher than most of his other records of the time, especially his trio work! The main reason for this is Oliver Nelson – who crafts some incredibly soulful backings for Billy on the album's tracks, twisting through soul jazz big band ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1954. Near Mint-
One of the first albums ever cut as a leader by trombonist Frank Rosolino – a hip set issued under the Stan Kenton Presents banner for Capitol in the mid 50s – but done in a smaller combo mode than you'd hear with Stan! The setting provides a great showcase for the emerging solo ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1954. Near Mint-
Easily one of the best of the Kenton Presents series on Capitol – and one of the few albums to ever focus on the genius talents of saxophonist Boots Mussulli! Capitol, 1963. Near Mint-

A stone classic from Supersax – a record with plenty of classic bop elements, despite a very 70s-styled group name and cover!
