New Orleans King Of The Stroll

LP (Item 583431) Ric & Ron/Rounder, Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

Classic Nola soul from Tommy Ridgley – one of the best artists to record for the Ric & Ron labels in the early 60s! Titles include "Double Eyed Whammy", "My Ordinary Girl", "Should I Love Again", "I Love You Yes I Do", "Three Times", "In The Same Old Way", and "Please Hurry Home".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gil Scott-Heron's first album – and his angriest! Unlike some of Gil's other albums – which have a sweet jazzy vibe and a mix of mellow soul styles – this one's a lot rawer, and features Gil rapping loud over very heavy percussion backing. All the work is his own, and the album's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rotary Connection

Aladdin
Cadet, 1974. Very Good Gatefold
Heavenly mystical soul from Rotary Connection! If you know the group, you know the deal already: Minnie Riperton sings vocals on a number of cuts, and the great Charles Stepney's producing and arranging, with a super-baroque style that's still light years ahead of most producers in pop! The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Chess, 1974. Very Good+
An excellent set of messed-up funky soul from Etta James – one of her killer early 70s sides for Chess! The album mixes together bluesy tracks and straight ahead soul – in a hip, bad-walking style that nicely updates Etta's older style for the 70s. The set includes a great funky cut ... Shama, Early 70s. Very Good+
Post-Twinight, and with a sound that's a little less raw, but still pretty darn soulful. The arrangements are by Syl and Simtec Simmons (from Simtec & Wylie), and the record has a good west side groove to it. The material does "bring out the blues" in Syl, but never too much, and ... Think what you want – we think this is a damn great soul album! Sure, the record was a crossover classic that got played to death back in the 80s – but give it a listen now, and you'll be stunned to hear how fresh it sounds, and how much it reminds you of all the British soul acts that ... Epic, 1987. Very Good Gatefold

Teddy Pendergrass

Joy
Elektra, 1988. Very Good+
A definite joy from the legendary Teddy Pendergrass – a late 80s album, but one that manages to still stay in all the best territory of his classic early solo work!
