In Tandem

LP (Item 583292) Muse, 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jack McDuff

Re-Entry
Muse, 1988. Very Good+
In our opinion, Jack McDuff never made a bad album – and this excellent later session is proof of that statement! The album's got a horrible cover – we'll state that from the start – but it's still a great batch of soul jazz organ tracks, played tightly by McDuff, with a group ... LP, Vinyl record album

Clifford Jordan

Inward Fire
Muse, 1978. Very Good+
Quite an unusual set for Clifford Jordan – a large group effort that stands in stark contrast to some of his smaller combo work of the time! The ensemble features an incredible array of respected avant and soul jazz players – including Pat Patrick, Muhal Richard Abrams, Dizzy Reese, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Larry Coryell

Comin Home
Muse, 1984. Near Mint-
The title's an apt one, as the set's a great batch of back-to-basics work from Larry Coryell – a player who first started out bold and strong in the 60s, and never really had a time to lay back in a more relaxed set like this! There's still a spacious approach that really marks the Coryell ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cedar Walton - Hank Hobley Quintet

Breakthrough (Muse pressing)
Muse, 1972. Very Good
One of the last great albums that Hank Mobley ever cut! Although Mobley's 70s output was nothing compared to his 60s Blue Note work, this 1972 session for Cobblestone/Muse is a winner, and features the aging tenorist co-leading a crack quintet with Cedar Walton, and featuring Billy Higgins, Sam ... Albert Dailey

Textures
Muse, 1981. Very Good
A seminal set from the under-recorded Dailey – mostly a trio date with Rufus Reid on bass and Eddie Gladden on drums – but also featuring Arthur Rhames on tenor on one track. Titles include "Pogo", "Textures", "Dailey Bread", and "The Dues We Have To ... LP, Vinyl record album

Creative Construction Company

Creative Construction Company Vol 2
Muse, 1970/1976. Near Mint-
Classic Chicago avant garde jazz, recorded at Peace Church New York by Ornette Coleman in 1970, and featuring Leroy Jenkins, Anthony Braxton, Leo Smith, Richard Davis, Steve McCall, and Muhal Richard Abrams. The whole LP's one long track called "No More White Gloves", and the sound is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tony Scott

I'll Remember
Muse, 1959. Near Mint-
An 80s issue of amazing early work from the hip team of Tony Scott and Bill Evans – Scott blowing modernist clarinet, with great piano from Bill – and rhythm from Jimmy Garrison on bass and Pete LaRoca on drums. Titles include "Garrison's Raiders", "Stella By ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ahmad Jamal

Macanudo
Argo, 1963. Very Good+
One of Ahmad's best albums ever – a Latin-ized set of tracks done with arrangements by Richard Evans, who really knows how to make the set groove! Ahmad's flowing piano lines come into play with lots of tight percussion and big band backing – in a way that never dampens his spirit, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ornette Coleman

Empty Foxhole
Blue Note, 1966. Very Good+
One of our favorite Ornette Coleman albums of the post-Atlantic 60s years – a set that still hangs onto some of the bold rhythmic conception of his previous records, but also points the way towards his freer jazz modes to come! The group's a trio – with really tremendous work from ... LP, Vinyl record album
