Let's Limbo Some More

LP (Item 582425) Parkway, Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

(Stereo pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Cameo

Cameosis
Chocolate City, 1980. Very Good
Full-on frenetic funk from Cameo – one of the group's tightest albums, yet still without any of the too-slick sounds of later years! The sound here is amazing – and we always find ourselves wondering how a group of guys can hit such perfect grooves with just a bunch of basses, guitars, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Phil Upchurch

Feeling Blue
Milestone, 1967. Sealed
Probably the best jazz album that Phil Upchurch ever cut! Phil plays in two settings here – one with a funky large group, arranged and conducted by Ed Bland (who did a lot of the work for Perception records in the early 70s) – the other with a quintet that includes Wynton Kelly, ... Undisputed Truth

Law Of The Land
Gordy, 1973. Very Good+
An unstoppable groove from The Undisputed Truth – a group who worked with Norman Whitfield in the same psychedelic soul territory as The Temptations – and who arguably got the sound across even better than them! This set's not as much of a bit hit as the group's other records from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Naked Eyes

Fuel For Fire
EMI, 1984. Near Mint-
Sweet electro pop from Naked Eyes – a record issued late in their early 80s run, but one that actually brings together lots of bits from earlier years! There's some alternate versions and remixes on the set – and the whole thing is actually more beat and bassline-heavy than most of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ben E King

Beginning Of It All
Mandala, 1972. Very Good
A strange little record by Ben – recorded after leaving Atlantic, originally issued by the small Mandala label in the early 70s, a short-live subsidiary of King Records in its last years. The sound here is hard to describe – rougher than Ben's uptown soul from the 60s, but still with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mass Production

Three Miles High
Cotillion, 1978. Very Good
Uptempo ensemble funk from Mass Production, very much in a post-EWF vein. The group does a good job of layering guitars, keys, horns and percussion together in a tight, bass heavy mode, we'd say our only wish is that they were a touch stronger in the vocal performances, which though nice enough, ... Dick Heckstall-Smith

Story Ended
Warner, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
A landmark album in the evolution of British jazz rock – the first solo album by Dick Heckstall-Smith, recorded right after the breakup of his famous group Colusseum! The album's got a similar feel to the best work of Colusseum – a blend of rock lyrics and heavily jazz-based phrasing, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1976. Very Good+ 3LP Gatefold
A massive 3LP package – one that set a whole new standard for 70s live albums! The group's at their rocking best – a bit rawer here than in the studio – and the set includes some overlooked gems from albums, plus renditions of a few Beatles tunes too. LP, Vinyl record album
