No hubris here – as the album's one of the most deeply personal records we've ever heard from pianist Richie Beirach – a set of solo piano work that easily ranks right up there with ECM classics in the format by Keith Jarrett or Chick Corea! Like both of those artists, Beirach's clearly got the ability to be free, but always manages to instead come back to these warmer passages that are full of gentle colors and these really lovely lyrical passages – all played with an open hand, and a sharply modern ear – but one that never seeks to overstate itself either.
