Christmas Carols

LP (Item 581820) London, 1953 — Condition: Very Good+
The lush, beautiful and all time classic set of Christmas Carols from Mantovani – the stereo version that brought extra lift to those soaring, beautiful string arrangements! From the best known carols to equally wonderful waltzes, it's all lovely and a worthy addition to any holiday music collection. Includes "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentleman", "Good King Wenceslas", "The First Noel", "Joy To The World", "Nazareth", "Waldteufel: The Skater's Waltz" and more.  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label stereo FFSS pressing with deep groove, in a blue back cover with light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wilson Lewes Trio

Theme From The Silencers
Diplomat, Mid 1960s. Very Good+
A knockoff group – like a lot of the stuff on Diplomat – but they're pretty swingin' nonetheless, and lay down nice versions of the spy themes "The Silencers" and "Our Man Flint". The album's short – and more like an e.p. – but the keyboards are pretty ... LP, Vinyl record album
RCA (Japan), 1976. Near Mint-
A very cool hi fi album from the 70s – done with a mixture of big band jazz, a bit funky at times, and fuller strings! LP, Vinyl record album

Steve Philips

Organ Favorites
Craftsmen, Late 1950s. Very Good
Steve Philips may not be the most exciting organ player in the world – but the album's got a very young Mary Tyler Moore posing on the cover, which is pretty darn cool! LP, Vinyl record album

Joshua Rifkin

Baroque Beatles Book
Elektra, 1965. Very Good+
One of the weirdest Beatle-related projects of the 60s – and one of the most abstract, as well! The album's got kind of an odd concept – in that it purports to be a rediscovery of rare baroque music roots of famous Beatle tunes by Lennon & McCartney – recorded with offbeat ... Billy Strange

Mr Guitar
GNP/Crescendo, 1964. Very Good+

Bob Thiele & Gabor Szabo

Light My Fire
Impulse, Late 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Excellent grooviness – and typical of the mad instrumental LPs that showed up on Impulse when they weren't cutting high-minded jazz! The record has a nice mix of easy funky jazz and pop psychedelia – performed by a range of groovy players conducted by Bob Thiele, and featuring Tom ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1971. Very Good
As the liner notes say: "Everything a woman needs to know to love and be loved by a man...The importance of his orgasm, the etiquette of orgies, what goes on in a man's head sexually - and much, much more." How could we top that? The album that inspired Rudy Ray Moore's Sensuous Black ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ventures

Horse
Liberty, 1968. Very Good+
One of the best late 60s albums by the Ventures – a lot more hard-wailing than usual – and done with a fair bit of influence from funk and soul music too! The title cut gives the album away nicely – as it's a cover of Cliff Nobles' classic funky 45 "The Horse", done ... LP, Vinyl record album

Max Greger

This Is Max Greger
Polydor (UK), Late 1960s. Very Good+
A sweet selection of 60s tunes from German bandleader Max Greger – some of which have great use of electric bass and offbeat rhythms amidst more familiar instrumentation! Tracks include "We Can Work It Out", "Safari Trumpet- "Strangers In The Night", "Kiss Of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Martin Denny

Taste Of Honey
Liberty, 1962. Very Good+
A great later moment from Martin Denny – a set that gave him a big 60s hit in a sweet version of "Taste of Honey"! Denny approaches the tune with all the great mellow moods that Bobby Scott intended – none of the too-fast styles of Hirt, and instead the slow-moving rhythms ... LP, Vinyl record album
