Dinah! (Polystar)

LP (Item 580770) Polystar, 1950s/1960s — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP

A double-length collection of classic Emarcy/Mercury work from Dinah Washington!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some ring & edge wear and some waviness at the bottom right corner.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, Early 60s. Near Mint-
One of the most important records in the career of Dinah Washington – even if only for the hit title track! The work here has Dinah elevating yet again – way past the R&B of her roots, and the jazz of a few years later – into a territory that definitely earns her the title of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Reprise, Early 60s. Very Good
One of the grooviest albums ever made by this great jazz vocal group – and a record that's darn impossible to find on wax! The Hi Lo's here hit the bossa craze of the 60's, and they turn their vocal harmonies to a Brazilian groove, in sort of a roundabout recognition of the way that their ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Williams

Sings About You
Roulette, Early 60s. Very Good
An overlooked gem from the great Joe Williams that has him singing in a classier and more laidback style than usual! Gone are the easy swinging blues of the Basie years, and in their place are a set of round, warm, and mellow tones that we really love – a genre-crossing style of vocals that ... A later Capitol gem by June – where she reprisies a number of classics from her early years with Stan Kenton – new versions of late 40s tunes, done here with Pete Rugolo arrangements that go a good way towards showing how both he and June had grown during the 50s. Three Sounds

Live At The Lighthouse
Blue Note, Late 60s. Very Good
A great little session by The Three Sounds – and one that features the band grooving away in a style that's a lot more lively than some of their studio recordings from the time! The whole thing was captured live at the legendary Lighthouse – and Gene Harris plays both piano and organ, ... LP, Vinyl record album
