Chuck Mangione Quartet

LP (Item 580173) Mercury, 1972 — Condition: Very Good+
A very cool album from the young Chuck – blowing here long before his crossover fusion work of the late 70s, on these long tracks that sound really wonderful – and almost have a soaring, spiritual vibe! Chuck blows flugelhorn – plus electric piano too – and the other hip players include Gerry Niewood on flute, alto flute, soprano sax, and guiro; Joe Di Bartolo on electric bass; and Ron Davis on drums, timbales, and congas!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Big Band Bossa Nova

A beautiful set of tracks that features Art Farmer soloing on flugelhorn over larger arrangements by Oliver Nelson. Mercury, 1952. Very Good-
Heavy swinging material from Krupa – working here in a loud and frenetic trio format, with Teddy Napoleon on piano and Charlie Ventura on tenor. One of the most magical records ever from this legendary group – a set that swings as hard and soulfully as some of their previous sessions, yet also has a sharper, more modern vibe as well!
