Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Junie

Bread Alone
Columbia/Big Break (UK), 1980. Used
Slicked up funk from Junie – not as crazy has his stoned-out albums on Westbound, but just as great overall! There's plenty of 80s bass pedal whomping in the mix, but production's nice and smooth, with some good doses of soul that keep the record from being a silly throwaway funk effort. ... CD

Emotions

Sunbeam
Columbia, 1978. Used
A great little album from The Emotions – largely because it sounds a lot like prime mid 70s Earth Wind & Fire, with female vocals added over the top – ultimately, pulling away with a soulful charm all its own! Maurice White produced the whole set, and it's got a soaring spacey ... CD

Columbia/Big Break (UK), 1978. Used
The first album from Thelma Jones – and a real standout set from mid 70s Columbia! The record is a sweet blend of southern and modern soul, with some fantastic arrangements by Bert DeCoteaux, who also produced the set in a wonderful way that lets Jones retain the deeper qualities of her ... CD

Luther Vandross

Busy Body
Columbia, 1983. Used
Classic 80s work from Luther Vandross – the kind of record that catapulted him from the soul music shadows into the major mainstream of the time! The style here is a fair bit more electric than some of Luther's music of the 70s, but the sound is still silky, soulful, and sensuous – ... CD
Columbia/Legacy, 1969. Used
A look at the earliest solo work by Shuggie Otis – tracks cut at a time when he was stepping out of the shadows of his father Johnny, and recording for Columbia both as an emerging star on his own, and as one of the best elements of the larger Otis Show enterprise! The tracks here focus a ... CD

Philip Bailey

Chinese Wall
Columbia, 1984. Used
A big breakthrough for Philip Bailey – and a record that was kind of a second-level explosion for the Earth Wind & Fire sound in the 80s! There's a definite crossover feel to the record – a style that takes Bailey's soulful vocals, and mixes them with lots of catchy hooks – ... CD

Clifford Coulter

Better Part Of Me
Columbia/Big Break (UK), 1980. Used
A damn great little record from Clifford Coulter – a set that's much tighter and more soul-based than his earlier funk albums for Impulse Records – but which comes together beautifully, too – thanks to help from Bill Withers in the studio! Bill produced, and the record has this ... CD

GRP, 1990. Used
Warm jazzy soul from Patti Austin – a record that still holds strongly in the sound she pioneered with GRP Records in earlier years, proof that Austin was one of the leading lights of the label during its classic years! There's a few tinnier keyboards here than a decade ago, but there's ... CD
