Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

In Tribute
Roulette, Early 60s. Very Good
The tribute here is to Dinah Washington herself – who left the planet all too soon, after passing away at an early age in 1963. The set brings together great late material that Dinah recorded for Roulette Records – tracks unissued at the time of this album, with beautiful arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album
Dinah '62
Roulette, 1962. Very Good
Fantastic work from Dinah Washington – a singer who's really hitting her stride here during her years for Roulette Records – with a vibe that's maybe her most mature, most sophisticated to date! Washington still has currents of her bluesy roots in her approach, but she's also moving ... LP, Vinyl record album

At this point in his career, Joe probably was living off of nickels and dimes – despite the fact that he was one of the 70s hipper jazz singers, in a soulful spiritual camp that included vocalists like Andy Bey and Rufus Thomas. This album's a nice mellow effort, taken from a live show at ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wonderful work from Leon Thomas – easily one of his greatest albums ever, and a set that was recorded at the same time he was working with Pharoah Sanders! The Lennon Sisters get groovy – as you might guess from the "Today" title, and from the set of cool 60s covers they perform on the set! Capitol, 1969. Very Good
Great UK beat group grooves from the late 60's – featuring the amazing voice of Julie Driscoll and the hard Hammond organ sounds of Brian Auger! In The Land Of Hi Fi
EmArcy, Mid 50s. Very Good
The Hi Fi in the title might imply that there's a bit more going on here arrangement-wise than on some of Dinah's other albums – but the scoring by Hal Mooney is still pretty straight, in a sophisticated jazzy mode that works best with the vocals, and which never overwhelms the singing for ... One of a few rare sides cut by vocalist Betty Roche – a really wonderful singer from the end of the 50s who should have been huge – at least given the quality of records like this!
