Historia Da Musica Popular Brasileira (12 inch LP & booklet)

LP (Item 57777) Abril Cultural (Brazil), 1982 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gatefold
A beautiful tribute to Caetano – featuring an LP with some of his best songs, plus a super-cool booklet that's filled with loads of excellent photos from the late 60s and early 70s. Titles include "Baby" by Gal Costa and Caetano, "Tigresa" by Maria Bethania, "Um Indio" by Doces Barbaros, "Forca Estranha" by Gal Costa, and "Menino Do Rio" by Baby Consuelo – plus "E Proibido Proibir", "Atras Do Trio Eletrico", "Alegria Alegria", and "Tropicalia" by Caetano himself.  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the booklet cover, with light wear, yellowing from age, and bent corners.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Muitos Carnavais
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
A lively album that mixes Caetano's rich songwriting style with a hard percussive base – a more grooving approach than usual – which gives the tracks a fast jumpy feel, and gives even more power to Caetano's strong vocals! There's some slight post-Tropicalia touches at time – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

As 10 Cancoes Medalha De Ouro

A cool record that features some excellent work from Erlon Chaves! A nice late 70s mix of MPB and samba – put together with the rootsy feel of the latter, but also some of the more creative song styles of the former! Gal Costa

Aquarela Do Brasil
Philips (Brazil), 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
Gal Costa pays tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian songwriters of an earlier age – the great Ary Barroso, one of the first to also get his songs translated into other global languages too! Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years.
