❔

A surprisingly nice set – done with the same depth that the A&M/Horizon series had brought to Paul Desmond's records of the time! Tracks are nice and long, and Desmond's alto sounds great – and it's wonderful to have Eugene Wright back on bass and Joe Morello on drums! Titles include the long "African Times Suite" – plus "Take Five", "St Louis Blues", and "Three To Get Ready & Four To Go".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some wear.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Time In
Columbia, 1966. Near Mint-
One of the lesser-known sets in Dave Brubeck's classic "time" series for Columbia – even more inventive than Time Out! Paul Desmond plays alto – and titles include "Travellin Blues", "He Done Her Wrong", "Cassandra", "40 Days", "Tim ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dave Brubeck

A La Mode
Fantasy, 1960. Very Good+
An unusual Dave Brubeck set from the start of the 60s – surprisingly on Fantasy, given his Columbia fame of the time – and with a slightly different lineup that features the great Bill Smith on clarinet! Smith's got a cool modern sound that's not unlike Jimmy Giuffre – icy but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1962. Very Good
The rarest of the "time" trilogy albums albums that Brubeck started with Time Out – and the most compelling, too! Time Further Out
Columbia, 1961. Very Good+
Like Dave Brubeck's legendary Time Out set? Try this one – a great record that takes off from the concept of the first, but which goes in some very fresh new directions – using the same great group with Paul Desmond on alto, Eugene Wright on bass, and Joe Morello on drums! Quincy Jones

You've Got It Bad Girl
A&M, 1973. Very Good+
Sweet funky Q for the 70s – easily one of the coolest albums ever from Quincy Jones! The album's got a very heavy electric vibe – one that's kind of a laidback take on the styles that Jones was forging in some of his 70s soundtrack work – served up with massive work on the ... Wes Montgomery

Down Here On The Ground
CTI/A&M, 1968. Very Good+
Super-dope work from the great Wes Montgomery – set to excellent early CTI arrangements from Don Sebesky and Deodato! A&M/Horizon, 1977. Near Mint- Gatefold
