Tenorlee

LP (Item 574886) Choice, 1978 — Condition: Near Mint-
Lovely, laidback, but spontaneous trio jazz from sax great Lee Konitz on tenor – backed by the impeccable piano of Jimmy Rowles, and Michael Moore on bass. This late 70s session finds the group in a spare, graceful, loose elegance and a glowing warmth. Nothing fancy, just a light, but impassioned set of timeless trio jazz. Titles include "I Remember You","Skylark", "Thanks For The Memory", You Are To Beautiful", "Handful Of Stars", "Autumn Nocturne", and "Tenorlee", which segues to "Lady Be Good".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Lee Konitz

Very Cool
Verve, 1957. Near Mint-
A slightly different album than usual for Lee Konitz in the 50s – one that's got a bit harder edge, and which has Lee working in a group with a trumpet! The set's performed by a quintet that includes Konitz usual suspects Sal Mosca on piano and Peter Ind on bass, along with Shadow Wilson on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lee Konitz

Jazz A Confronto
Horo (Italy), 1976. Very Good+
Great Konitz work recorded in Italy – definitely in that "cut above" mode you get with the Horo label! The group features Dave Cliff on guitar, Peter Ind on bass, Al Levitt on drums – and the set features a mix of tunes by Konitz, Tristano, Wayne Marsh, and others. Tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sal Mosca

For You
Choice, 1979. Near Mint-
Beautiful solo work from pianist Sal Mosca – an under-acknowledged genius for mixing modern and lyrical modes! The set was recorded in Sal's own studio in the late 70s – you can't get more intimate than that – but there's a freely expressive quality that's really amazing, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Zoot Sims

Zoot Sims' Party
Choice, 1974. Near Mint-
LP...$9.99 14.99
Not as much of a party as you might expect from the title, but quite a lively little album – and possibly one of Zoot's best from the 70s! There's a tightly fluid feel to this record that we really love a lot – not one that's electric or slick, but served up by a great backing trio ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stanley Turrentine

Hustlin'
Blue Note, 1964. Very Good
One of Stanley Turrentine's few organ-based sessions for Blue Note – recorded in the company of his wife Shirley Scott, a real cooker on the Hammond who holds it down masterfully here – and great band that's filled out by Kenny Burrell on guitar, Bob Cranshaw on bass and Otis Finch on ... Ahmad Jamal

Ahmad Jamal 73
20th Century, 1973. Very Good+
One of the coolest records ever from pianist Ahmad Jamal – a set that features Jamal on Fender Rhodes instead of acoustic piano – a shift that initially had the album ignored by many jazz purists – but treasured strongly by listeners like us in a later generation! Jamal solos ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shelly Manne & His Men

Jazz Gunn
Atlantic, 1967. Very Good+
Shelly Manne scored big with a jazz version of the Peter Gunn soundtrack in the 50s – and he does it again in this 60s version of Henry Mancini's music for the full-length Gunn movie! The style here is a bit more far-reaching and looser than before – showing not just Manne's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Bryant Trio

Gotta Travel On
Cadet, 1966. Very Good
A stone groover from the great Ray Bryant – one of his brilliant albums for Cadet from the 60s! Ray's soul jazz trio (with Freddie Waits on drums) is augmented by the 2-horn trumpet section he used on some of his other Cadet recordings from the time – trumpet from Snookie Young and ... Joe Farrell

Canned Funk
CTI, 1975. Very Good+ Gatefold
Nothing canned here – as the sound, style, and groove of the record is as fresh and freaky as the classic image on the cover! The riffing rhythms get going right from the start – some amazing lines from a rhythm combo that includes Joe Beck on guitar, Herb Bushler on bass, Jim Madison ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1955. Very Good+
A sweet live set from Dave Brubeck's early years on Columbia Records – recorded in New York, but with all the calculated cool and modern tones Brubeck first forged in the San Francisco scene of the 50s! Paul Desmond's on board on alto sax – really getting a lot of space to stretch out ... LP, Vinyl record album
