And We Got Love

LP (Item 574864) Mercury, Late 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

A fantastic album from the great Horst Jankowski – and a set that really points the way towards some of his groovy records to come for the MPS label! The sound here is maybe a bit more sprightly and upbeat than some of Jankowski's previous records – still a haunting blend of his grand piano lines and larger backings handled by Erwin Lehn, but also balanced with a more pronounced sense of rhythm on some cuts – thanks to drums from the mighty Charly Antolini! These upbeat tunes have a soaring swing that's completely sublime – Horst really setting the pop instrumental mode free to hit the next level – and titles include "A Band", "Casino Royale", "Zabadak", "The Happening", "It Must Be Him", "Don't Sleep In The Subway", and "The Last Waltz".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout hole.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, 1966. Near Mint-
Fantastic piano work from the very groovy Horst Jankowski – an artist who's really stepping into his own with this sweet mid 60s album! The set still follows the balance of electric bass and hard piano sounds from Horst – but it also fleshes out the music in a really great way, by ... LP, Vinyl record album

A real classic from Jackie Gleason – and a record that's probably the most outward statement of his big reputation as a booze hound! Sounds Like Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass
A&M, 1967. Near Mint-
Sounds like Herb Alpert, but it grooves in ways that we hardly expected – playful, creative, and filled with so many more rhythms than just the Tijuana groove we might have thought! There's a real deepening sense of instrumental pop going on here – as Herb explores some of the darker ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kirby Stone Four

Baubles, Bangles & Beads
Columbia, 1958. Very Good+
The Kirby Stone Four were not always as right-on as other vocal quartets of their time, like the Four Freshmen or Hi-Lo's – but this album is one of their best, and features the group grooving in a tight harmony sound, with little of the "comedy" that sometimes mars other albums. ... Kirby Stone Four

Go Sound
Columbia, 1959. Very Good
The Kirby Stone Four took the jazz vocal harmony style of groups like the Four Freshmen or The Hi Los, and they punched it up a bit, adding in a bit of humor and showmanship, in a mode that made them very popular with the live audiences in the Nevada clubs that were often their home turf. Walter Carlos (now Wendy) performs electronic versions of many classics on the Moog.
