Encore

LP (Item 574447) Philips, 1963 — Condition: Near Mint-

(Mono black label pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Songs For Hip Lovers
Verve, 1957. Sealed
A very groovy set from Woody Herman – one that definitely lives up to the title! The album features a mix of small and large group material – and the combo sides feature Ben Webster on tenor, with Jimmy Rowles on piano and Barney Kessel on guitar! LP, Vinyl record album

A unique album from Woody Herman – a one-off recording for the Jazzland label, and one that has him working with both a full group (his Fourth Herd), and with a smaller combo of players! The album's noteworthy for the presence of some great solo stars – Zoot Sims on tenor, Nat Adderley ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hey! Heard The Herd?
Verve, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
Surprisingly groovy stuff from Woody Herman and (as the title implies) his updated version of the Herd. Unlike other swing-era bandleaders, Herman was not one to sit still – and as the 60s approached, he was continually updating his sound – as on the funky records he made later for ... Moody Woody
Everest, 1959. Very Good
Woody Herman plays Ralph Burns' 4 part suite "Summer Sequence" with his orchestra and Charlie Byrd soloing on guitar. There's also a few other shorter tracks, like "Bamba Samba" and "Prelude Ala Cha Cha" with a lighter feel, but as the title says, it's pretty moody ... LP, Vinyl record album

A pretty wonderful album by Michel Legrand – way better than you'd guess from the title! Sure, the tunes are mostly numbers by Richard Rodgers, but Legrand handles them here with the best of his soundtrack skills – really opening them up with some amazingly deft arrangements, and ...
