Brilliant hardbop work from Blue Mitchell – a rare set recorded at a time when Blue was mostly working in an electric mode for other labels, but is caught here in a sharp-edged acoustic date that really takes us back to his sound in the 60s! The sound is wonderfully tight – rhythm work by Victor Feldman on piano, John Heard on bass, and Dick Berk on drums – and the great altoist Dick Spencer joins Blue in the frontline, adding his own raspy tone to help further deepen the sound of the set.
