❔

(Cover has some wear & clear tape along the spine.)

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Distant Shore
Cherry Red (UK), 1982. Very Good+
A beautiful record, recorded in the days when Tracy Thorn was just a wee girl, and before she hooked up with Ben Watt to form Everything But The Girl. Despite her young age, though, the songs are incredibly mature, and the 8 tracks on here are still some of the best songs ever written about ... LP, Vinyl record album
Adventure
Elektra, 1978. Very Good+
Marquee Moon set the bar too high in eyes of the avant rock/post punk literati – so Television's nearly as great, but not as revolutionary Adventure never really got its due. Regardless, this is an incredible album, and entirely essential, too! They had already broken all of the new ground ... LP, Vinyl record album
Can't Buy A Thrill
ABC, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
The first album from Steely Dan, and already a leading light in the world of 70s rock! The album's got a bit less of the polish of later years, but is still filled with gems – the kind of tunes that nobody ever seemed to pen before, and which few other groups could match later – ... Song Remains The Same
Swan Song/Atlantic, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Arguably one of the greatest double-live albums of the classic rock generation – filled with extra long takes of Led Zep classics, most of which diverge very strongly from their studio versions! The real highlight here is the set's classic "Moby Dick", which features one of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1968. Very Good

Nems, 1976. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A killer collection of the early greatness of prime era Sabbath – great tracks from the first handful of albums of the Ozzy years! If there's a problem with We Sold Our Souls For Rock & Roll, it's that there was too much greatness on the early albums for them to put compilation out that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bizarre/Reprise, 1972. Very Good-
Wonderful stuff from Frank Zappa – a set that still has all the freak-out feel of the early years, yet which also shows a real maturation in his arrangement styles as well! The instrumentation is fantastic – not just great guitar from Frank, but heavy keyboards from George Duke, slide ... LP, Vinyl record album
More Specials
Chrysalis, 1980. Very Good+
The second great set from The Specials – music once billed as "revival ska" – but which has arguably gone onto have a bigger impact than the first wave of the genre! There's a rough edged quality to the music that's totally great – a rude boy aesthetic filtered through ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blondie
Private Stock, 1976. Near Mint-
The incredible debut of Blondie! Before branching out into 70s NYC club culture informed pop, Blondie was first-and-formost an incredibly cool punk-era rock & roll band, though never really straight-up punkers themselves – filtering a love of 60s girl group vocals and seedier surf rock ... Pye, 1975. Very Good+
A classic album of jazzed-up funk – the one lasting legacy by this oft-sampled group! 9th Creation originally hailed from west of the Bay Area scene of the 70s – and this album was recorded in Oakland with the same sweet jazzy finish as work by some of the other big Northern California ...
