American Beauty

LP (Item 571816) Warner, 1970 — Condition: Very Good+
Also available
Grateful Dead — American Beauty (3CD set – with bonus tracks) ... CD 32.99

One of the crowning early moments from the young Grateful Dead – a key Warner studio album that really has the group moving from psychedelic to more roots-oriented modes – maybe a Marin vibe versus a Haight sort of happening – with loads of great guitar and pedal from Jerry Garcia, plus lots more from the rest of the crew too. Robert Hunter wrote the tunes, Mickey Hart added in lots of percussion next to the drums - and titles include the very groovy "Truckin", plus "Box Of Rain", "Candyman", "Operator", "Sugar Magnolia", "Friend Of The Devil", "Ripple", "Brokedown Palace", "Attics Of My Life", and "Till The Morning Comes".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Burbank level pressing. Cover has light ring and edge wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Warner, Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good
The long strange trip the Grateful Dead began with Warner Bros in the late 60s culminated in this concise, pretty darn solid attempt at an early Best Of, appropriately called Skeletons In The Closet! The Dead would never be best known for their studio recordings, but this really is a good reminder ... LP, Vinyl record album

Seatrain

Watch
Warner, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Maybe one of the most classic albums from Seatrain – and a set that definitely shows their huge progression from roots in The Blues Project, to their transformation into more of a roots rock band on the Marin County scene! In a way, the record's almost a west coast take on territory The Band ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black Sabbath

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Warner, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
The grandest scale and most elaborately furnished Black Sabbath album to this point – but they still bring the heavy! Four Seasons

Helicon
Warner, 1977. Very Good+
A 1977 album for Warner Brothers – one that has the group hitting a smoother, tighter sort of sound – nicely compressed 70s pop, of the sort that both Frankie and the Seasons had been hitting in some of their individual chart forays during the decade. Bob Gaudio's very firmly in charge ... LP, Vinyl record album

Snide, surly and cathartic genius from the Sex Pistols – a record with a legacy as eternal as any rock album, punk or otherwise – all the more stunning, given it's the band's lone studio album! One classic after another, including "Holidays In The Sun", "Bodies", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Last Record Album
Warner, 1975. Very Good+
Of course, this is not the last record album – it's not even the last album by Little Feat – but it's a damn good one! The Last Record Album isn't restless as the previous few albums, with kind of a laidback groove, overall – and we actually really dig Little Feat in a mellow ... LP, Vinyl record album
