Norman Granz Jazz At The Philharmonic Featuring The Gene Krupa Trio

LP (Item 571636) Mercury, 1952 — Condition: Good
Heavy swinging material from Krupa – working here in a loud and frenetic trio format, with Teddy Napoleon on piano and Charlie Ventura on tenor. Gene's working all the bass himself on the drums, and the album's got that pyrotechnic feel of the best JATP sets. Titles include "Dark Eyes", "Idaho", "Body & Soul", and "The Man I Love".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Black label pressing with trumpeter logo & deep groove. Vinyl has oxidation and plays with surface noise. Cover has some light wear & aging.)

Good

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
  • Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
  • In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great session from 1959 – one that features John Coltrane playing tenor in a combo that's billed as being led by altoist Cannonball Adderley – but which is really more of a Miles Davis combo, without Miles! Mercury, 1958. Very Good+
From their inception in late 1956, Ramsey Lewis and his famous Young/Holt-era trio were destined for great jazz fame. A set that's right on target, right from the start – and one that has the young Cannonball Adderley really coming into his groove!
