A stunning mix of talents that brings the heavenly piano and guitar of Antonio Carlos Jobim into play with the lush, but light arrangements of Claus Ogerman – a swirling mix of post-bossa loveliness that redefines Jobim's sound, and opens up new avenues for exploration in sound! The production is amazing – pillowy-soft, but with a complex depth that's hardly been matched again – and although Jobim's the main player, other great musicians include Dom Um Romao, Claudio Slon, Jerome Richardson, Ron Carter, and others. Tracks include "Wave", "Mojave", "Lamento", "Batidinha", "The Red Blouse", "Antiguq", and the groovy "Captain Bacardi". Beautiful all the way through!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

A&M/Verve, 1970. Used
The first (and maybe only) American release by one of the greatest Brazilian singer/songwriters of the sixties – and a record that's quite different than any Sergio Mendes work of the time, despite Sergio's name in the title! The vibe is like Lobo's best of Brazil from the late 60s – a ... CD
Solar/World Psychedelia, 1974. Used
A gem of a record from the same Pernambuco early 70s scene that gave us Lula Cortes, Ze Ramalho, Geraldo Azevedo, and Alceu Valenca! This obscure little set has lots of the earthier tones that showed up in work by the above artists – a style that mixes folksy touches with bits of psychedelia ... CD

Victor Assis Brasil Quarteto

Pedrinho
EMI (Brazil), 1979. Used
One of the greatest albums by Victor Assis Brasil – a brilliant sax player who was one of Brazil's greatest jazz talents in the 70s! On this set, Victor really tightens things up from some of his spacier post-Coltrane albums of earlier years – crackling with a firey approach to the ... CD

Jorge Ben

Ben E Samba Bom
Universal (Brazil), 1964. Used
Amazing stuff! Jorge Ben never made a bad record in the 60s – and this is one of his best! The album's filled with tight jaunty numbers that mix big band samba arrangements with quickly strummed guitar, and Jorge's wonderfully raw vocals – all classic stuff for Jorge, but a style that ... CD

Miucha & Antonio Carlos Jobim

Miucha & Antonio Carlos Jobim
RCA/BMG (Brazil), 1977. Used
A pretty darn sweet vocal session from the duo of Miucha and Antonio Carlos Jobim – recorded with lots of bossa overtones, very much the same spirit as the legendary Elis & Tom album of the mid 70s! Chico Buarque participates in the session, and Jobim even lends his vocal talents to a ... CD

Brasilia Modern Six

Estreia
BMG (Japan), 1969. Used
Groovy vocal pop from Brazil – an unusual group with a mellow harmony sound – one gal and five guys, gently singing together over some light arrangements of American and Brazilian pop tunes! The style of the record is different than work by other Brazilian harmony combos of the 60s ... CD

Os Pilantrocratas

Pilantocracia
Whatmusic (UK), Late 60s. Used
A mad batch of tunes that are a perfect example of the "pilantragem" (piracy) movement in Brazil at the end of the 60s! Similar to some of the pluralistic cultural influences running through Tropicalia, pilantragem borrows music from a world of different sources – working in a ... CD

Onda Nova Do Brasil
Lazarus, 1970. Used
An incredible batch of Brazilian grooves – a rare Mexican album cut by Luiz Eca of the Tamba Trio, featuring early work by Claudio Roditi, Nana Vasconcelos, and Joyce! The sound is a swirling mix of late bossa and the baroque grooves that were coming out of Brazil at the end of the 60s ... CD
Production Dessinee (Japan), 1977. Used
A great little Brazilian group from the 70s – one who continues the harmony styles of Sergio Mendes in the 60s, but takes the music into some groovy new directions! The sounds here are more samba than bossa – with guitar and percussion dancing nicely together in the rhythms as group ... CD
