Bennie Wallace Trio & Chick Corea

LP (Item 570606) Enja (Germany), 1982 — Condition: Near Mint-

Features Wallace on tenor, with Chick Corea on piano, Eddie Gomez on bass, and Dannie Richmond on drums – a great lineup!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bennie Wallace

Big Jim's Tango
Enja (Germany), 1982. Sealed
With Bennie Wallace on tenor, Dave Holland on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. Tracks are nice and long – and Wallace hits some of the tenor heavy lines you'd hear on a Jones trio set! LP, Vinyl record album

Bennie Wallace Plays Monk
Enja (Germany), 1981. Sealed

Enja (Germany), 1982. Near Mint-
A wonderful little tribute to the late, great John Coltrane – served up as a piano trio session led by Tommy Flanagan, but done with a sense of power and imagination that rivals the strength of Trane's classics! All tracks here are originals by Coltrane, performed by Flanagan with a forceful ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kenny Barron

Enja, 1985. Near Mint-
A slightly more aggressive trio session than usual for Kenny Barron – still done with that round, warm tone on the keys that we love so much – but hitting the tracks with a stronger punch that's a bit unusual, and which might be the result of using Dave Holland and Daniel Humair as part ... LP, Vinyl record album

Woody Shaw

Lotus Flower
Enja (Germany), 1982. Near Mint-
Beautiful late work from Woody Shaw – perfectly honed, in the strident, stretching, soulful exploratory style of his best work in the 70s! The group's a quartet with Mulgrew Miller on piano, Stafford James on bass, Tony Reedus on drums, and Steve Turre joining Woody in the frontline – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tommy Flanagan

Enja (Germany), 1982. Near Mint-
There's a definite Monkish bent to this one, in case you couldn't guess from the title – but Tommy Flanagan doesn't simply copy Monk's compositions, but also throws in a few great touches of his own! The session's got a depth and complexity that goes beyond other standard tributes to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Walter Norris & George Mraz

Enja, 1974. Near Mint-
The title's an appropriate one – as the record drifts a bit lazily from track to track. The energy never really picks up, and but it's got a nice laid back, spacious approach, settling comfortably into its destiny as a set of piano/bass duets. Titles include "Space Maker", "No ... Enja, Early/Mid 70s. Sealed
Sublime solo piano work from Tete Montoliu – a set that takes off from the superb directions he'd hit on his Spanish albums of the 60s – when Tete was emerging as one of the most lyrically fluid pianists on the European scene! That legacy is greatly enhanced here – as Montoliu ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jim Pepper

Dakota Song
Enja, 1987. Very Good+
One of the few albums ever cut by Native American saxophonist Jim Pepper – a great player whose ethnicity has always ensured him a strong reputation – but whose work on tenor sax should be enough! This outing is a relatively straight jazz session – a quartet date with Kirk ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grover Washington Jr

Feels So Good
Kudu, 1975. Very Good
An incredible batch of electric funk from Grover Washington Jr – easily one of his best albums ever! The record really picks up from the sweet CTI sound of the 70s – taking Bob James arrangements with a lot of space and electric keyboards, and letting Groover blow some wonderfully ... Blue Note, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
An incredible album from Lee Morgan – one of his last records ever, and a set that shows a whole new promise in his music – one that was sadly unfulfilled as a result of his tragic early death. The songs hare are all quite long – stretched out live numbers, but never in a way ... LP, Vinyl record album
