Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Columbia, Late 50s. Very Good+
In our opinion, this "comeback" material by Rushing was way better than his original work from the late 30s. He's got more of a sense of control here, and his approach to the material is extremely thoughtful, and always tinged with a good sense of jazz, making it swing a bit more than on ... Diana Dors

Swingin Dors
Columbia, 1960. Very Good
One of the sexiest sets of vocal jazz to ever come from the British scene – a classic 1960 album by the lovely Diana Dors – easily one of England's best answers to American cheesecake singers of the 50s! Rosemary Clooney with Duke Ellington

Blue Rose
Columbia, 1956. Very Good+
Fantastic stuff, and proof that Rosemary Clooney was always one heck of a great singer – with strengths in jazz that you didn't always hear in her pop work! In A New Mood
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good
Great jazzy work by this excellent singer – a tight set featuring Oscar Brown Jr. performing jazz material written (mostly) by other composers, shifting the focus away from his earlier records, which have more of his own compositions. Ralph Burns and Al Cohn handled the arrangements – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmy Rushing

Rushing Lullabies
Columbia, Late 50s. Near Mint-
A killer album by Jimmy – and certainly one of his best later records! The album includes the amazing track "Russian Lullaby", done in a totally swinging jazz version with Ray Bryant, Buddy Tate, and Sir Charles Thompson on organ. A&M, Late 60s. Very Good+
French pop meets LA production – and the result is some of the best work ever recorded by A&M Records – a gently groovy, slightly sexy sound that really helped define the label in its early years! Skye, 1970. Very Good
Easily our favorite album ever by Grady Tate – a complex suite of tracks about adult love, loss, and redemption – put together with a focus and clarity that even surpasses his classic Windmills Of My Mind record!
