Best Of Ella

LP (Item 570205) Decca/MCA, Late 30s/1940s/Mid 50s — Condition: Very Good
2LP

(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mark Murphy

Let Yourself Go
Decca, 1957. Very Good
One of Mark Murphy's first albums – quite different than his later work, but swinging and jazzy as he could always be! Ralph Burns arranged the set, and even at this early point, you can hear what a talent Murphy is – singing with a confident swing that wasn't often the case for male ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sammy Davis Jr & Carmen McRae

Boy Meets Girl
Decca, 1957. Near Mint-
A real classic from Sammy Davis Jr & Carmen McRae! Given Sammy's great talent for personal interaction on the stage, as heard often on his key Rat Pack recordings, he's a real natural for this sort of duet mode – as he manages to talk and sing his way through the tunes beautifully, ... Carmen McRae

Mad About The Man
Decca, 1958. Very Good+
Wonderful early work from Carmen McRae – a set of tunes originally composed by Noel Coward, served up by Carmen with a very hip 50s feel! The orchestrations here are by Jack Pleis, who really gets the mood right for the set – and shakes off some of the floweriness that could sometimes ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mark Murphy

Rah
Riverside, 1961. Sealed
Great early work by Mark Murphy – a set that's different than the cool breeziness of his 70s work, and done with an approach that's a lot hipper than most of his 60s contemporaries! Ernie Wilkins handles the arrangements, and there's a rollicking soul jazz groove here that's a bit unusual ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sue Raney

New & Now!
Imperial, Late 60s. Sealed
A beautiful little session from vocalist Sue Raney – and a bit of a departure from her earlier work for Capitol! Kitty White

New Voice In Jazz
EmArcy, 1955. Very Good
Kitty White's first album for Mercury – a sublime set recorded right at the height of Mercury's jazz years – and done in a personal, unfettered style that's really great – right up there with more famous albums for the label by Dinah Washington or Sarah Vaughan from the same time. ...
