SOS Band — Too (with bonus tracks) ... CD 13.99

The SOS Band's second album – and a masterpiece of 80s groove! The album's wonderfully tight, and wonderfully right on the money – held together like a pile of money dipped in honey – keyboards, bass, percussion, and vocals all sweetly grooving with that post-70s funky feel that the group virtually invented at the time! These guys have a way of putting over a groove that few of their contemporaries could ever match – never too commercial, always with plenty of passion, yet also as razor-sharp as any combo like this could ever hope to be. A few mellow moments round out the set nicely – and titles include "Are You Ready", "For The Brothers That Ain't Here", "Unborn Child", "Stay", "You", "There Is No Limit", "Do It Now", and "It's A Long Way To The Top".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Alexander O'Neal – Icon
Tabu, 1980s. Used
A dozen classics from Alexander O'Neal's legendary run on the Tabu label – nearly all of them produced by the team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, in that catchy yet soulful mode that made them the kings of chart soul at the time! The material is nearly all from the mid 80s, and the set list ... CD

Gang's Back

Lies In Disguise
AKO/Boogie Times (France), 1985. Used
The Gang's Back, and they've got the muscle T's to prove it – not to mention a host of 80s beats and keyboards too! The style here is a bit more catchy and hook-heavy than the group's first album – nice emphasis on the playful lyrics of the tunes as they roll out over snapping 80s club ... CD
Philadelphia International/Right Stuff, 1978. Used
One of Jean's classic Philly albums, recorded after she left Doug Carn, and started to make records as a solo artist. The record's got stellar production by Gamble & Huff and Dexter Wansel, and features a nice mix of up-tempo cuts and mellow ones. With the monster "Don't Let it Go to ... CD

Mavis Staples/Curtis Mayfield

Piece Of The Action
Curtom/Snapper (UK), 1977. Used
One of the last great 70s soundtracks on Curtom Records – a smoking little set that pairs the music of Curtis Mayfield with the vocals of Mavis Staples! Curtis is very much in charge of the record from the start, and works in a hard-stepping and righteous mode that recalls his earlier work ... CD

Ohio Players

Honey
Mercury, 1975. Used
One of the best albums the Ohio Players cut during the years at Mercury! Most folks go for their big hit "Love Rollercoaster", but we're always partial to the smooth, mellow funky track "Sweet Sticky Thing", served up here in the cool long version, which has a groove that ... CD
Carnival/Collectables, 1968. Used
A heck of a great 60s soul album – one that we'd rank right up there with the best by the Impressions from the time – perfectly put together without a bit of filler! The set's the second full length set by The Manhattans – one of the few groups of their time who could really pull ... CD

Amel Larrieux

Bravebird
Bliss Life, 2004. Used
The first indie release by Amel Larrieux – and a great one! Amel's sounding stronger than ever here – working in stripped-down territory that recalls her earlier work, yet which also put her in the forefront of underground soul artists keeping the genre fresh and strong. After years ... CD
P&P, Late 70s/Early 80s. Used
Incredible grooves from the third corner of the P&P triangle – the legendary Greg Carmichael, a man who was as important to the sound of the New York underground as Patrick Adams and Peter Brown! Carmichael worked heavily with Adams back in the day, and he's got a way with a groove that's ... CD

Alice Coltrane

Translinear Light
Impulse, 2004. Used
Mindblowing work from Alice Coltrane – an album of incredible beauty that easily sits with the best of her classic early recordings for Impulse! The album's got a spare, contemplative quality, but it's also never sleepy – and instead steps forth with the tonal building and modal moving ... CD
