Influences – Compiled And Mixed By DJ Marky (2CD set)

A really wonderful compilation tunes that influenced Sao Paolo's DJ Marky – who maybe known more for drum & bass and broken beats, but here assembles an eclectic 2CD set of classic Brazilian tunes, 70s soul, disco, funk, and floor shaking club grooves – a straight up collection of classics from across the groovy spectrum! If there's a hurdle that we hope compilations of this sort will clear, it's to connect a diverse platter of sounds into a cohesive groove, and Marky couldn't have done a finer job – giving us a clear window into his personal influences and crafting an excellent batch of music for us! Bossa, house, soul, funk and modern grooves blended perfectly! Most of the tunes are from the late 60s through the early 80s, with a few neo classics from later years – with a very subtle, nicely done mix of the tunes on the first CD that keeps a most of the original tunes intact – with 16 tracks including "Aquarius" by Cal Tjader, "These Eyes" by The Guess Who, "Samba Blim" by Tamba 4, "Funkanova" by Wood, Brass & Steel", "Look Ahead" by Aquarian Dream, "Here's To You" by Skyy and much more. Disc 2 is unmixed, with many of the standouts from the first disc and several other tracks including "It's All In Mr Magic's Wand" by Whodini, "Balanca Pema" by Ronald Mesquita, "Sugar Rock" by One Way, "Thousand Finger Man" by Candido, "Adeus, Maria Fulo" by Os Mutantes, "Honeysuckle Breeze" by Tom Scott & The California Dreamers and more! (Digipack has some light wear.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

BBE (UK), Late 60s/1970s. Used
Nice one! The second volume of the Keb Darge funk series for BBE, and it's every bit as great as the first one – with the same commitment to great funky tracks that haven't been on other comps, and the same great standards, set by the king of the genre himself. 20 cuts by obscure funky ... CD

Harmless (UK), 1970s. Used
We love this series! And why not? The package is a stellar collection of smooth funky tunes from the 70s – nearly all of which have been sampled for hip hop records, which not only makes them a bit familiar, but also give them the "thumbs up" from today's beathead generation. But ... CD

Stones Throw does it again – with a massive batch of older funk rarities that tops most of the rest on the market! Cold Heat is a follow-up to the label's smoking Funky 16 Corners set – and like that one, it's overflowing with great bits that have barely (or never) been heard by the ... CD
