❔
A 70s New York classic – the first and best album by Eddie Drennon! Eddie's got a unique sound that's part soul and part Latin – grooving here in a Latin Hustle mode that brings together gliding strings, floating chorus vocals, and a heavier funk-based set of rhythms that really kicks up the groove! Club diva Esther Williams is one of the singers in the group, and the mix of strings and funk is completely sublime throughout! Great cuts include the heavily funky (and often sampled) "Theme In Search", which has a very dark groove that we can't get enough of, and the club classic "Do What You Gotta Do" – but there's also loads of other nice ones, like "Let's Do It Again", "Please Stay Please Stay", and "Get Down, Do The Latin Hustle".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing. Cover has some light wear and aging.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A landmark album from Johnnie Taylor – a set that not only gave his career a giant boost, but which also helped shift southern soul into hip new territory in the late 70s! Hi Records, 1974. Very Good+
Easily our favorite album ever by Ann Peebles – not just for the beathead title track, but also because it seems to be the one record where she brings a bit something extra to the studio! O'Jays

Survival
Philadelphia International, 1975. Very Good+
Heady sounds from The O'Jays – a set that continues the more righteous side of the style they developed on early 70s Philadelphia International – a great mix of modes that sometimes has the trio sharing some of the political spirit of The Temptations with Norman Whitfield, and sometimes ... Philadelphia International, 1982. Very Good+
Although they didn't have as big of chart success as in earlier years, the O'Jays managed to do alright as the 80s moved in on them. Salsoul, 1978. Very Good+ 2LP
A pretty great little album – a 2LP set that features 4 sides of Salsoul classics, mixed together! The "non-stop dancing" holds out for the course of each side – as as many as 6 tracks are mixed back to back, in classic 70s disco mode. Titles include "Moon Boots" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Perez Prado with Shorty Rogers

Voodoo Suite – Plus Six All Time Greats
RCA, 1955. Near Mint-
A great collaboration between Perez Prado and trumpeter Shorty Rogers – one in which Rogers' solos sparkle brilliantly over the top of Perez's tight Latin rhythms – all in a style that's as moody as it is evocative and rhythmic! Side one features the extended "Voodoo Suite" ... LP, Vinyl record album

George Benson

Breezin
Warner, 1976. Sealed
A super huge hit for George Benson – and the record that took him from being a funky jazz guitarist into an R&B superstar – opening up sides of his talent that first emerged on his 50s R&B recordings as Little George Benson, but taken here into some very hip 70s territory!
