New Orleans Connection

LP (Item 569433) Vee Jay/Charly (UK), Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-

Not the Jamaican combo who worked with Lee Perry – but instead a very cool New Orleans combo from the 50s – pulled together here from some rare recordings for Vee Jay! The set features some great vocals by Larry Birdsong on a number of cuts – and others include work by Leonard Carbo and Lee Diamond.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Delicious Together (Suite Beat)
Vee Jay, 1964. Near Mint-
Betty Everett and Jerry Butler certainly are delicious together – and the pair have more than enough great energy to hold on strong throughout this entire album of duets! Tiny Bradshaw

Breakin' Up The House
King/Charly (UK), Early 50s. Near Mint-
Nice stuff from one of our favorite R&B bandleaders of the 50s! These excellent tracks pop along with a tight rolling groove and a lively sense of rhythm that was often unmatched by some of the other sleepier groups of the time – and Bradshaw did a good job of recruiting some of the ... Vee Jay, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Nice compilation of tracks that features some fine (and famous) moments from one of our favorite Chicago soul singers, recorded for the Vee Jay label, when they were one of the leading lights on music row. Nice compilation of tracks that features some of Jerry's finest (and famous) moments for the Vee Jay label. Gil Scott-Heron's first album – and his angriest!
