Keeper Of The Flame

LP (Item 569396) Muse, 1979 — Condition: Near Mint-
$3.99 ...

LP, Vinyl record album

(€3.32 || £2.93 || ¥444) (approx.)

(Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Alto Madness
Muse, 1977. Near Mint-
Nothing too mad here, but a wonderful record that really shows the genius of Richie Cole in the 70s! Cole on Muse is a wonderful combination – sharp-edged alto sax, rooted in tradition – but let loose on some freer soul jazz modes as well, really showing the strong jazz underground ... Muse, 1977. Very Good
It's not often that Sam Jones gets the chance to record as a leader with a group larger than a trio – but when he does, the results are always great – and this album's no exception! Jones is working here on a date that's easily one of his best ever – a sextet outing that features ... LP, Vinyl record album
Good Vibrations
Muse, 1980. Near Mint-
Late magic from Groove – a surprisingly tasty set, especially given the date and the label! The record's one of those late 70s Muse sides that really take the torch from the harder-hitting Prestige sound that had been lost since the early 70s – and although the production style's a bit ... Mellow
Muse, 1975. Very Good+
One of Sonny Stitt's great laidback dates from his later years – with Stitt on both alto and tenor, alongside Jimmy Heath on tenor, soprano, and flute – plus Barry Harris on piano, Richard Davis on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums! LP, Vinyl record album
Standard Bearer
Muse, 1989. Very Good
The title's no lie, as Wallace Roney serves up a set of jazz standards – yet in keeping with his other great work on Muse Records, the album's also got a heck of a lot going on as well! The album's hardly the kind of "trumpeter hits the classics" album you might expect – as ... LP, Vinyl record album
Always On My Mind
Muse, 1985. Very Good+
With David Braham on organ and electric piano, Ted Brancato on keyboards, Wilbur Bascomb on bass, Bernard Purdie on drums, and Ralph Dorsey on percussion. LP, Vinyl record album
Family Man
Muse, 1978. Near Mint-
Jaki Byard brings plenty to the table here – playing both tenor and alto sax, in addition to his usual piano – and showing once again that he's not just a multi-instrumentalist, but also one of the most multi-voiced talents in jazz! Byard seems to bring a similar spirit of multiplicity ... LP, Vinyl record album
Times Out Of Mind
Muse, 1976. Very Good
Mellower than some of Dave's MPS records – with not as much psychedelic playing, but still some great jazzy grooves, laid out in a nice electric vein! The lineup includes vibes, electric piano, art, tenor, and guitar – and the best tracks have a dancing modal mode that shows that Pike ... LP, Vinyl record album
In the Alley
Muse, 1977. Very Good+
Smooth and mellow 70s funk from Willis Jackson – a record that still has him working with funky stalwarts from earlier years, but which has a more 70s-influenced kind of groove! There's actually a nice dose of older soul jazz lurking underneath a few of the tracks – making for a record ... LP, Vinyl record album
Perception
Muse, 1972. Near Mint-
Great stuff by this fantastic funky fusion outfit that included Billy Hart on percussion, Eddie Green on electric piano, and Odeon Pope on tenor and flute. The real highlight, though, is Pat Gleason on arp, who adds a lot of cool dark moody touches to the group's fusiony playing. The whole record' ... LP, Vinyl record album
Crisscraft
Muse, 1975. Very Good
We never tire of the saxophone work of Sonny Criss – and this mid 70s gem is a perfect example of his brilliance! Sonny's sound on alto here is completely his own – raspily, soulful style that's really unique – and which draws strongly from Criss' rich life experience, including ... LP, Vinyl record album
Black Love
Muse, 1974. Near Mint- (reissue)
A 70s soul jazz classic – one of those albums we go back to again and again over the years for inspiration! The album was one of the first from young reed player Carlos Garnett – and it's virtually a super-session for the time – with a sublime lineup that perfectly blends ... LP, Vinyl record album
