Arthur Prysock & Count Basie

LP (Item 568898) Verve, 1965 — Condition: Sealed
Originally: 4.99
An incredible pairing of two important 60s talents – magnificent vocals from Arthur Prysock, and some of the best backings he ever received – thanks to Basie!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed late 80s pressing with 'super saver' and vintage store stickers, spot of faded marker.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mel Torme

My Kind Of Music
Verve, 1961. Very Good+
One of Mel's best albums of jazz vocals! The record was cut in London, with work by arrangers Geoff Love, Tony Osborne, and Wally Stott – and it's got a wonderfully full quality that works perfectly with the vocals of "The Velvet Fog". Betty Carter

Look What I Got
Verve, 1988. Sealed
Mellow magic from Betty – one of her first "comeback" albums for Verve, and an excellent set of tunes that still keeps the same feel as her 80s work on her own label. The group on most tunes is a trio – with Benny Green on piano, Michael Bowie on bass, and Winard Harper on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ella & Louis
Verve, Late 50s. Very Good+
A legendary pairing of two classic postwar singers – each of whom were really finding their own sort of sound in the 50s, then found a way to make some real magic together on a record like this! Louis Armstrong was very much senior to the younger Ella Fitzgerald – but both had become ... LP, Vinyl record album

Verve, Mid 50s. Very Good+
Classic Verve work by Billie – and an album that probably brought the word "distingue" into the vocabulary of more people than any other use! Billie Holiday

All Or Nothing At All
Verve, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Beautiful Billie from the last years of her life. The material was recorded in 1956 and 1957 in Hollywood, featuring Barney Kessel, Ben Wesbster, Harry Edison, and Jimmy Rowles – all grooving nicely in small group formation. The tracks have a wonderfully fragile quality – and although ... LP, Vinyl record album

It Might As Well Be Swing
Reprise, Early 60s. Near Mint-
One of Sinatra's greatest records ever – pure genius all the way through!
