World Of Duke Ellington Vol 2

LP (Item 567714) Columbia, Late 40s/Early 50s — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold
(Vinyl has a short click on the 2nd track of side 1. Cover has a cut corner, light ring wear, promo ink stamp.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Duke Ellington

Far East Suite
RCA, 1967. Near Mint-
One of Ellington's greatest albums of the 60s – and a record tinged with Eastern themes and darkly angular modern arrangements. Impulse, 1962. Near Mint- Gatefold
A legendary meeting of two classic jazz talents late in their careers – in a setting that's ideal to bring out all the complexity of their well-honed genius! Duke Ellington

Ellington At Newport
Columbia, 1956. Very Good-
One of the first albums to ever issue recordings made at the Newport Jazz Festival – quite a big hit, and the beginning of a real trend in jazz! Duke Ellington

Festival Session
Columbia, 1959. Sealed
Duke Ellington in fine fine form – working here in a selection of tunes played at jazz festivals in 1959 – a very good year for the Ellington Orchestra! The styles here are a mix of older Duke modes and some of the more sophisticated modernism of his late 50s years – and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bobby Hutcherson

Best Of Bobby Hutcherson
Columbia, Late 70s/Early 80s. Very Good+
A selection of numbers recorded by Hutcherson for Columbia from 1978 through 1981, late in his career, but still with a very fresh sound. His work during this period has always been a pleasant surprise to us, with a fairly smooth and polished approach, especially in the production, but still ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Miles Davis In Europe

The classic debut of a young Wynton Marsalis – cut after a stretch when Wynton was working with Art Blakey, and had really sharpened his chops! Columbia, Mid 50s. Sealed 2LP Gatefold

LP, Vinyl record album

Terumasa Hino

Double Rainbow
Columbia, 1981. Near Mint-
Beautiful work from trumpeter Terumasa Hino – an early 80s date that was issued in the US, but one that's got as much bold power and freewheeling soul as his Japanese releases from a decade before! The album's surprisingly open for the time – not in the slicker mode that Columbia was ... LP, Vinyl record album
